Money grew on trees. The choice of leaf was traded.
Who knows - Papua has a new Guinea might start charging the U.N for 'Air Purification' of their pollutants.

They've done 'thousands' of surveys between those given cash and those who have the click of a button transaction.
Those who have cash, spend less by 79%.
Those who just click (because they feel they don't have anything substantial in their hand to hand-over like 'trade') or Tap n' Go - spend way more.

This is why they want to get rid of Cash. People will spend more without it and end up 'Cashless' in more ways than one.

The reason cashless transactions are preferred is not least because it is the first time in history that transactions can be completed without the problem of a physical item needed to effect the transaction.

I'm not saying its wrong. Just saying there is more than just 'one' right answer to it. I think this country can 'afford' both systems and will be better for it.

The black market will be crippled with cash gone.

So will the white market....

How are banks' suburban branches essential services?

Can you go a month without one?

Not everyone uses online banking.  And if there's no bank branch, how do you get cash?

At the post office, or any retailer who has an eftpos machine.

e.g. Coles, Woolworths, Kmart, BigW, Target, etc.

You can go into any of those stores & there is a limit on how much cash they will give you....

I've been into Woolies & Dan Murphys & wanted cash with my purchases & they said they couldn't do it, they didn't have enough.

It was only 4 hundred.

They've gone from asking you if you'd like any cash out today to never mentioning it.

Go to the post office then, or use an ATM.

The 'Black Market" will not disappear along with cash disappearance. It will always exist through elements of society operating outside "regular" society either by being excluded, left behind or by choice. It will morph further back into goods and services exchange and bartering if required, which is even harder for governments to track. This area is already re-growing significantly in low level criminal payments as cash becomes harder to "Wash" through the system.

Post offices are limited as well.  And any town that relies on an ATM is typically used so much that it's often out of cash a day or two after they fill it.

Thats what they tell you but it would be a rare event that you can withdraw $2000. Post offices aren't allowed to keep over $1000 in their tills. You would walk in just after someone has made a large deposit and before staff dropped it into a time delay safe.
