While I don't like this deal with PNG I can understand why it was done. We can't outspend the PRC so we have to think of other ways to bribe the PI nations into cooperating with us. Any PNG politician will think twice about pocketing cash from China if it means their league team is booted from the Australian comp, resulting in a lot of annoyed PNG voters.

Nothing affects the politicians like a bunch of disaffected voters who vote on the basis of whether or not their team is part of the competition. Cool
