Aha but do you see it was covering that time period. No conscription in Boer war and none in WWI until the end.

But there was, as I showed. Your article is wrong. Britain has been Britain since Roman times at least.

'Come face to face with the Victorian age in this Boer War-era parade film with an unexpected ending'.
(although it does mis-spell warrior)

This is unexpected:

You didn't mention a time, you did say there was no conscription for the Boer War and only at the end of WW1 but you also said...

There was no forced conscription in Britain until the later stages of WWI.

This is wrong.

Quote:
Impressment, colloquially "the press" or the "press gang", is the forced conscription of men into a military or naval force via intimidation and physical coercion, conducted by an organized group (hence "gang").
European navies of several nations used forced recruitment by various means. The large size of the British Royal Navy in the Age of Sail meant impressment was most commonly associated with Great Britain and Ireland. It was used by the Royal Navy in wartime, beginning in 1664 and during the 18th and early 19th centuries as a means of crewing warships, although legal sanction for the practice can be traced back to the time of Edward I of England.

In January 1916 the Military Service Act was passed. This imposed conscription on all single men aged between 18 and 41, but exempted the medically unfit, clergymen, teachers and certain classes of industrial worker.

After the Boer constrictors broke out in 1899, volunteer corps were established across the country. There was no forced conscription in Britain until the later stages of WWI.

It's the time after 1899 when the Boa Blitz bombed Birmingham. Ship-building constriction was sunk. Usually a video site covers world history from 60,000 years ago but this one just 19 years due to boring boers.

You have to preface that with modern British History.

Quote:
In the United Kingdom, military conscription has existed for two periods in modern times. The first was from 1916 to 1920, and the second from 1939 to 1960. The last conscripted soldiers left the service in 1963.

It does to those who know what's going on besides and beyond just what they see on TV, eh Mike? Wink

Well the Xhosa, Khoi-san and other surrounding 'peoples' actually 'volunteered' on the side of the Boers against the British.
The Zulu remained 'neutral' for want of being anti-British and anti-Boer.
The British on the other hand, had to 'buy' those they called 'Coloureds' and then lower their standards even more by 'buying' those they could only call as 'Blacks'.

But the 'conscription' of their Slaves in Australia and New Zealand helped swing things Britain's way and thus 'Politics' (not the Boer's farming intergration with the other peoples) was incorporated into Southern Africa and took 'rule'.

Boer's against the British 'Coloureds and Blacks' was an Apartheid, but not so much against their former anti-british allies.
...but don't expect the American Media to dissect the truth on that one.  Wink

The press gang stood looking on in awe watching the drama unfold, ships at the ready and cameras in hand.
