A semitrailer shot through a level crossing while the train was nearly ON the level crossing—train missed hitting the semi by a few cm, that close!


Now WHY would the driver of a semi drive so recklessly? That driver was not an orphan—every dashcam compilation video I watch has trucks charging through red lights even if the lights have been red for some seconds.

Are firms scheduling transport too tightly? Are the drivers using drugs to stay awake? Even the caffeine in a cup of coffee is a drug.

There was a public hullabaloo about all this some years ago. Did that bring in meaningful changes to road safety laws governing heavy trucks?

Anyone know?

To reduce the road toll consider how you should drive:

1. Should you drive courteously?

2. Should you drive predictably?

What triggered this realisation was a clip in a dashcam compilation:

Road with two lanes on each side.

On the “up” side the right lane is full of stationary traffic, left lane is empty. A driver lets a car from the other side of the road turn right into a side road, only for that car to be collected by a car travelling at some speed in the (empty) left lane. I have seen other occurrences in other compilations.

Be predictable on the road.

Increasingly, aggressive drivers, encouraged by lack of Police vehicles on the roads, will move into the left or right turn lanes only to speed straight ahead when the lights at the intersection turn green. That is NOT being predictable.

The little neurotic who is Mod of EE is getting hysterical.

Only person I ever had banned forum wide for a breach of a ban was Booby when he deliberately broke the ban to be a barrack room lawyer. He did accidentally breach another ban—posted one day before his ban ended—and I took no action.

Booby was, until recently fair about accidental postings. Maybe you and he agreed to deliberately try and get me banned forum-wide or did Shonk put you up to it? His lies about not getting his $60 not cutting through did he decide on another method to indulge his self pity?

Maintain a steady speed... that way other drivers can work out how to get around you if you are slow etc... and on highways people don't have to constantly judge how fast the arsehole speeding behind will go to match the moment you want to pass the slow old guy in front up there...  just stick to the speed limits and enjoy the ride.

Same on country roads - if you are slow on a road you don't know - FCS don't speed up on the straight when other users want to overtake you.... that can cause 'baseball batting' around you haid ....  If you are on an unfamiliar road stay close to the recommended speeds on bends and don't cut corners....

Bloody near head-on'ed a dork today on the way back from the doc's - he just moved over to his right into my side of the road across double lines to line up a corner he didn't know and nearly hit us coming the other way. Even the old girl - a perpetual critic and blamer of the driver - said "Jeez - we get all kinds of drivers on this road!"
