Papua New Guinea police say at least 53 people have died in a massacre in the country’s highlands.

Warning: Some of the details in this story are distressing.

Police believe the men were shot dead in an ambush in Enga Province, in a major escalation of tribal fighting in the region.

When going to war - I bet the Australian soldiers loved having those 'tribal savages' on their side and not the Japs. And their 'savagery' is no different than what I saw from Ukrainians last year - even from just the citizens upon each other!

People may wonder where the tribesmen get guns and ammo?

I have a friend who was a missionary priest there years ago and he wanted a rifle, so contacted the local chief who asked what sort he wanted, Australian, Japanese or American.
He settled for a .303 and plenty of ammo as he preferred the Lee Enfield and a US one took longer to get.

Some tribes are more peaceful and passive than others. The Bougainvillians were very peaceful when I was working there for a copper mining company, but the company employed mixed tribe labourers from the New Guinea mainland, and that caused problems because they were all accommodated in the one large company sleeping quarters ... what could go wrong? One was chopped up one night and found on the beach the next morning, that's the only one I know about, otherwise we were too busy working long shifts to know what the natives were getting up to most of the time

Comes on the heels of the uprisings/riots by Police & Army personell in Port Moresby over pay issues.

And Albanese gets up in Parliament when his PNG counterpart was here (telling Albo we'd better cough up with more money or the Chinese would be giving it to them) and Albo says -

"PNG wasn't granted their Independence it was their inherent right".

What a grandstanding wanker ... when just over the border their Melanesian brothers & sisters have been under the Indonesian Colonial jackboot since 1965.....

with Labor Party assistance(Gough Whitlam).

What's that weak kneed TNUC doing about their Independence.

The slimey little prick has offered PNG $600 million and a team in the NRL. Grin

with the highlands tribal warring, the Police & Army rioting in Port Moresby the NRL won't want to be suggesting home games in PNG. Roll Eyes

Guess who consigned the West Papuans to the "Moslem jackboot"? The Australian Government under Menzies. He found that Australia lacked the means to intervene after protesting the Dutch withdrawal from the territory and when he appealed to Washington for aid under the A??US Pact, Washington, more interested in guaranteeing free passage through the Sunda Straits backed Indonesia.
