When did the earth start warming?

Lead author Emeritus Professor Malcolm McCulloch, from UWA’s Oceans Graduate School and Oceans Institute, said the finding showed that global warming, the combined average of surface ocean and land warming, had been underestimated by about 0.5 degrees, mostly during the initial 19th century stage of the industrial era when coverage by shipping was still limited.

“So rather than the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimate of average global temperatures having increased by 1.2 degrees by 2020, temperatures were in fact already 1.7 degrees above pre-industrial levels,” Professor McCulloch said.

The I.5C is the tipping point; things start to get really bad after that - like the endless succession of floods, fires, temp extremes, and storms we have seen around the globe, over the last decade.

I have an excellent Mitsubishi air conditioner.

It's actually quite cold inside now.

I did all my errands/chores early this morning to avoid the heat.

I've spent the rest of the day in lovely, cool, air conditioned comfort.

When I checked on my poor old wheelchair-bound mother this morning she had winter clothes on, because she said her (LG) air conditioning was so cold.

I wouldn't live in Perth without AC.

*Still 40 degrees now at 4:36pm

Phew!

The temperature has now gone down to 38 degrees (4:45pm).

There is a strong west/southwesterly wind blowing now here in Rivervale but it's taking a long time to cool things down obviously because it has had to travel over hot land to reach here (I was really hoping it would cool down more quickly after the sea breeze came in just after lunchtime).

30 degree forecast now for tomorrow.

I wonder how hot it needs to get before the Bureau of Meteorology say "Hot" and "Very Hot" like they used to do instead of "Sunny", "Mostly sunny" and "Partly cloudy" which they've been doing for the past few years?

I also did a quick bit of shopping this morning at Belmont Forum then retreated back inside here to the air conditioner.
