Some of those institutions fulfill functions that do not cater to Indigenous people normally, UnSub. Using your arguments we should see an end to Pensioners organisations, Unemployed institutions, you name any specialist organisation that caters to a specific demographic. Tsk, tsk, tsk...
There is nothing about indigenous institutions that cannot be fulfilled in institutions that cater to all Australians, Brian. Indigenous people can access pensions and unemployment benefits. The thing is, that Indigenous Australians seem to be getting 2 to 3 times as much money that I get for welfare. Not that I am proud of being a welfare recipient. But, I happen to think that indigenous people should be able to handle means-tested income and be subjected to the same reciprocity measures that other Australians on welfare are required to do.
Quote:Obviously they were not catered for which is why those organisations were established, UnSub. Now, if you could garantee that they were catered for, then I'd support their disbandment. Can you provide a 100% guarantee that they will be catered for? Tsk, tsk, tsk...
You cannot name one institution in Australia that bars indigenous Australians from accessing. Therefore, your accusation is false.
Quote:Who said they decided to save them? They actively worked to see them disappear, UnSub. They stole their lands, destroyed their culture, demolished their tribes and clans and stole their children. Are you proud they did that? I'm not. Tsk, tsk, tsk...
The Australian government decided to implement a policy of assimilation for the indigenous Australian people. At some point mid-last century, the Australian government allowed integration. By the 1980s, all racial barriers were removed. When I was going through high school, there were the beginnings of indigenous privilege. If you were indigenous, you could claim exemptions from punishments (unless the issue was about something serious). These days, it is "**** you, whitey" if you dare to speak out against indigenous privilege.
Considering all the stolen 'lands', culture 'destroyed', children 'stolen', indigenous Australians are doing remarkably well. But, they are being complacent by all the privileges that they are given, considering that it was their grandparents and earlier ancestors that suffered the hardships of colonisation.
