My LGA has elided its "welcome to country" from its web page and now
simply and more appropriately states that...

"We recognise the value and strength of Aboriginal culture to our
heritage. Our council is proud to acknowledge the Gunaikurnai People
as the traditional owners of the land that is now Wellington Shire".

I'm still unsure about the word "owners" though, as the earlier Aboriginals
had virtually no notion of ownership. They lived as an intrinsic part of
the land, as one with it in both body and spirit.

I'd prefer to see (say) "dwellers". Cool
