Impact of 319 windfarms
Jan 23rd, 2024 at 7:02am

lees thinks he is on to something.

1000 windfarms is what, lie 1/1,000,000th of the earth’s surface? Probably much less than that as the “farm” might cover, what 100–1000 acres, the actual towers+blades be a lot less than that.

Yes, the wind generators would generate some heat while making electricity and the towers would soak up the sun’s heat and radiate it at night but it amounts to a butterfly fart in a gale.

A coal fired power station of the same actual output would cause more direct heating than that as well as contribute to greenhouse gases.

An ignoramus of low intelligence and a clown afraid of the change AGW will bring are 99% of the so-called Environment board.

That board has put on like 12K posts in the last, what, 7 years? Pathetic. The Environment MRB is holding OzPol back as is the sheer stupidity in the new Coronavirus board.

I think Booby has done a mass deletion of posts in Environment.

The green delusion that so called 'renewables' can provide all the power  modern society requires would be laughable if it wasn't such a serious issue. These zealots are determined to destroy the environment in order to save it.  Roll Eyes

https://www.masterresource.org/windpower/wind-power-ridley/

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2022/12/02/the-tories-wind-power-delusion-matt-ridle...

https://wxresearch.org/how-efficient-are-wind-turbines/

There are plenty more references out there. I will quote from the first one:

” … world energy demand has been growing at about 2 per cent a year for nearly 40 years. If wind turbines were to supply [one year’s growth], how many would need to be built each year? The answer is nearly 350,000, since a two-megawatt turbine can produce about 0.005 terawatt-hours per annum. That’s one-and-a-half times as many as have been built in the world since governments started pouring taxpayer money into this so-called industry in the early 2000s.”

“At a density of, very roughly, 50 acres per megawatt, typical for wind farms, that many turbines would require a land area half the size of the British Isles, including Ireland (61,000 sq mi). Every year. If we kept this up for 50 years, we would have covered every square mile of a land area half the size of Russia with wind farms (3.05 million sq mi).”

And from the third, which is a pro-renewables site:

"Most contemporary wind turbines have an efficiency between 25 and 45 percent in average operating winds".
and goes on to explain that the maximum efficiency possible in perfect conditions is only 59.3%.

These figures expose the wind delusion for what it is.

Nevertheless, clean energy has been taking a bigger and bigger share of the energy market.

It has to be so, Carbon Capture and Storage not working.

Need more geothermal energy in the mix, wave and tide power too. Tidal power is predictable./

I am not against some nuclear in the mix but it is expensive and not a flexible way of generating power.

'Clean energy' as applied to renewables is a marketing concept, not a fact, and why is flexibilty a requirement for power generation? The inflexible, constant output of coal, gas and nuclear power stations are what is needed, not the flexible and limited output of renewables.

Flexibility is essential when dealing with renewable energy and when running the Qld-NSW-Vic-Tas-SA grid.

I had some hopes of the new small modular reactors but the first one suffered as many delays and cost overruns of any nuclear station.

LOL, lees repliers, the point of my argument going straight over his head.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

The point:

1. wind farms make up a tiny part of the surface of the globe

2. The area occupied by actual towers/blades is tinier still.

Booby from the safety of Environment where I am banned says I drink too much. No estimate of what/when/how much I drink, of course, the troll just likes to troll.
