I'm intrigued by the fact your very first post under the heading: 'Trouble with China' is concerned with Nauru's  recognition of mainland China as the sole Chinese rep in the UN.

How is  'trouble with China' - except for delusional "freedom" (or death)  neanderthal ideologues who want to condemn Aussies to poverty in order to  resource the US in the Taiwan Straits?

You would be better to look at the trouble in your own backyard:

Prof. Steve Keen (anti-Neoclassical economics crusader)

Privatising the planet:

Utilities, health, media - there's a rush to take evrything out of state hands. But could corporate-run towns be the final act, privatisaing democracy?

How far are we willing to go in accepting the corporate takeover of just about everything? In Britain public utilities were sold off, so companies could profit from selling resources whilst minimising maintenance of facilities. Phil asks the question how Britain’s water infrastructure is in such a state of repair in an industry that makes £13 billion per year. Then there’s the moves to strangle publicly funded media and privatise the funding of health. But it gets worse. Britain’s freeports are local areas run jointly by local authorities of local business. Democracy has become just another seat at the table. And there’s a proposal from one consortium for a new town in Britain that is run by a corporation where residents sign a contract for services. No local democracy. Such towns already exist in many parts of the world. Is that the conclusion - we privatise everything and we are all at the whim of big business. Elon Musk is already working on how to create your artificial best friend.

Deplorable.

China is using "soft power" to project it's influence all over South Pacific.

It isn't illegal but highly undesirable from Australia's and NZ POV.

POV?

I note your experience in the military.

For my part,  I see all war in the age of MAD  as evidence of profound sickness in the human species.

We invented the UN at the conclusion of WW2 - and now we are forgetting WHY we invented it, ie "to save mankind from the scourge of war..."

Instead of gearing up for war in the Taiwan  Straits, politicians in Oz and NZ should be working to eliminate the "legal war" nonsense - and the UNSC veto - which disfigures the UN Charter.

There are sensible people - even in the CCP - who would be receptive to such overtures.

Just sayin'.

POV is PointOfView.

As for "profound sickness in the human species."
I like to think of it as "Cain chromosome disorder" as in Biblical symbolism rather then  the Rat Calcineurin Inhibitor gene (Cain)

If you assume that The Creator is a programmer of organic hardware "Cain chromosome disorder" can be viewed as a safety subroutine designed to trigger self destruction of an aggressive object before it destruct the rest of system.

Impressive - are you a micro biologist - or whoever would know of  such topics as the 'Rat Calcineurin Inhibitor gene'?

Yes, "original sin".....will self-awareness save us?
