Planet Earth III

We've just seen some of Planet Earth III. Amazing and scary.
Richard Attenborough said that since they did the first Planet Earth (20 years ago) the animal numbers haver decreased by 30%.
There are 8,000,000 different species on the Earth, 1,000,000 are threatened with extinction.
In the Amazon, 16,000,000,000 trees have been felled.
75% of our agriculture lands is used to raise meat for us to eat, either for the animals or for fodder for them. This is very inefficient usage of our land.
If we move to a more plant based diet, that will help.

Not according to the IUCN Red List. The numbers are about 44,000. Not good but nowhere near one million.

Richard Attenborough? The bloke who said climate change caused the walrus to fall from a cliff. He ignored his own footage, released at a later date showing them being chased by cuddly polar bears. So how much credit to give to Attenborough, when he lies so much? It is called noble cause corruption. Roll Eyes

No it won't the range lands don't support crop production. There is no shortage of food. There are supply problems, and a lot of that is because warlords control a lot of the supply chain to the end user. Roll Eyes

It is a claim made by Attenborough. The Sixth Mass Extinction Event that is not happening. It was computer derived by guessing numbers of taxa, including those not yet found, and extrapolating known extinctions, and voila we have a Sixth Mass Extinction Event. Totally fraudulent. Roll Eyes

The UN is concerned with sustainable food production in the world, not only Oz.

more efficient food production (by eliminating meat) is one consideration, alongside the issue of land and water resources which DO impact food production.
