I tried out a rust removal technique recently and
I might post about it if anyone is interested?

I used Aluminium Sulphate as the solution.

I have neve heard of that. What sort of metal is it, is it bad rust?
I have used various rust converters on really bad rust and rust protection on some not so had. They all worked pretty well.
I think clean it up (wire brush) and seal it with primer to stop oxygen getting to it helps a lot.
Normally it is not a big problem.

Galvanic corrosion is a bit different.

Nope, definitely did not work on Booby’s brain. Then again—not much to work on, eh?

I did - I looked around for something rusty and
I found some bathroom scales.

I got inspired by the many rust removal videos on YouTube -

and so I looked around  for something I had that was rusty to try it on and
I found my bathroom scales needed to be improved.

I don’t have a picture of before but the whole top of the area where you stand and sides were very rusty.
I was going to throw it out but they still work perfectly.
I removed the top part of the scales and also vacuumed it out and oiled the mechanism inside.
I used Aluminium Sulphate – swimming pool water cleaner/improver -
on the top part as the rust removing chemical –
superior to what they are using on YouTube -
and my 12V power supply for electrolysis inside a large plastic tub.
It worked really well after about 3 hours.
I had some old but proper white paint –
a spray can of some White Rust-Oleum Ultra cover paint and primer.
I painted it about 10 days ago.
I probably should have done a second coat?
I bought a stick on tile from Bunnings today for $2.55. –
cut it to shape instead of reusing the old ruined tile.
Anyway – I’m happy with the results.
Rust removal is interesting and can rejuvenate old items making the usable again.  Smiley
