Why don't you all get back to me when SARS-CoV-2 (more 'affectionately' known as COVID-19) turns into "just a cold" or becomes "just like any other respiratory illness"?

I guarantee I'll be waiting a long, long time... probably forever.

Feels like I'm trapped on a merry-go-round of endless stupidity in this section.

No wonder hardly anyone posts here anymore, it's like freaking Groundhog Day.

(I'm replying to Black Orchid here by the way, Bobby posted while I was typing).

Oh, and I'm also replying to the post below this which just 'popped up' while I was editing.

You believe in lockdowns to keep you safe, so lock yourself down and shop from home etc.

Carl do whatever you need to do if you believe it keeps you safe but trying to make misplaced compulsory authoritative demands of others is irrational.

Hi BO,
I think the masks at least stop people from coughing or sneezing
an aerosol of droplets into the air.
They help a bit.
Every time I go shopping - about every 2 minutes I hear someone coughing or sneezing
and almost no one is wearing a mask.
Most don't bother using a tissue or using their elbow to break the sneeze or cough -
they are filthy, irresponsible animals.

Wear your mask and keep away from people then Bobby.

People don't just cough and sneeze on the area your mask covers ie your mouth and nose.  They'll cough and sneeze on your groceries, clothes, arms, skin, hair etc.  A mask isn't going to save you.

Hi BO,
I don't wear a mask anymore.

The most likely way to get an infection is to breathe in an aerosol of
droplets containing millions of live virus particles.

In Melbourne -
if the animals that were sneezing and coughing would at least
have the courtesy to wear a mask it might help a lot.
It might also help if they didn't go shopping while showing obvious symptoms of infection.
It seems that is too much to ask of the inconsiderate, selfish bastards.
I bet it's the same in Sydney?

I haven't come across anyone obviously infectious in my daily travels nor have I been in a supermarket or shop etc with people coughing and sneezing around me.  If I did, I'd move well away.

Sydney must be more civilised lol.

Hi BO,
You must live in a salubrious suburb of Sydney?

There are many people of a low socioeconomic demographic where I live.
You can't go to the pubs on Saturday night as they turn into blood baths and
the streets are full of cars and motorbikes racing around most nights
at more than double the speed limit making lots of noise.
The shopping centers are full of people with tattoos and
germ infested animals sneezing and coughing over the top of you.
You really need to get out more and see the real world.
Maybe try your Western suburbs?

Maybe this might motivate our useless Federal and State governments to do something about Covid. After all... it's about the economy and money and that's all they're interested in?

But I doubt it... especially if it involves making people wear masks again (government is afraid of the 'cooker' backlash, not to mention the backlash from business - see my signature).

There Is Money in Prevention

Quote:
Companies have been ignoring the enormous long Covid risk for too long. Now they're paying for it – literally. Implementing the Swiss cheese system could make them largely Covid-proof in no time. So what needs to be done?

And seeing as I'm apparently caught in a Groundhog Day 'loop' here it might be time for me to bring this up again... it's about the third or fourth time from memory.

How do our Federal and State governments get away with allowing a Level 3 Biohazrd virus like SARS-CoV-2 to run rampant and kill and disable people in contravention of this International Covenant (which Australia has been a signatory to for decades)?

International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights - Article 12, Section 2 (c)

Quote:
The prevention, treatment and control of epidemic, endemic, occupational and other diseases

This would also apply to the flu which is brought in from overseas every year but our governments have also been ignoring that for decades.

And, our States and Territories are also ignoring their own Health Acts by allowing Covid (and the flu) to spread unhindered.

How are they getting away with it? Anyone?

Last I heard some lawyers were supposed to be looking into this but I'm sure that our pathetic Federal and State governments will have found a way to 'safely' ignore it already. After all, Australia has prior 'form' in ignoring Covenants and other international treaties, etc. when it suits them... the treatment of refugees is a classic example.

In other words once you have solved all your problems
Evolutionary biology causes you to lose your desire to stay alive

Observed even with captive high-order animals.

It's long been realised by zoo workers that if high-order animals are kept in enclosures where food is easily available, the animals become depressed and neurotic and tend to self-harm or become aggressive towards other animals.

Very interesting meister

I was originally a bit supportive of universal basic income
But looking at this phenomenon ubi may well be a disaster

Certainly people on unemployment benefits are six times more likely to commit suicide
Certainly the mental health of aboriginal communities suffered terribly when they were given sit down money
Effectively given access to food like the higher order animals in the zoo
But not given any problems to solve

I would imagine that the lions may well benefit mentally
From being given live prey to chase down

If the world economic forum get their way and by their own admission
People are well fed and looked after and don't have much to do except entertain themselves
We can probably expect to see a big deterioration in mental health

It's happening now.

It's been almost a generation since the explosion of easy access to information and, particularly, the online economy.

What was thought in the 90s would lead to a utopia has, in terms of a mental health crisis, become a dystopia - as it was always destined to become.

Utopias cannot exist in reality - our instincts towards working for survival won't allow it... They can only exist in our imagination and within our religious myths.

...If you are approaching old age and your focus is not on your children and grandchildren
I absolutely pity you

The thought of pleasuring myself in my old age makes me feel sick to my stomach
I would jump out a window rather than be an entitled leech bludging on society

Well, you can forget your "pity" as I (thankfully) never had
children.  In fact most children are everything we abhor in
adults—they're egocentric, ill-mannered, are unruly and noisy,
demanding, selfish, impudent, and intolerant etc.

I'm not quite sure you mean by implying I could be an
"entitled leech" or "bludging" on society?   Please clarify.

What a surprise, not!

So you've been a child all your life, then.

I think I've told you in the past that flattery will
get you nowhere with me my friend LOL.

As MeisterEckhart and Aquascoot have decided to
derail this thread with a meaningless rant against
baby boomers, I have to ask the obvious questions...

Why are they so afraid of us boomers, and what fuels
their jealousy of our lifestyles?

Each of them will eventually become so-called shadow
boomers, so it'd be interesting to revisit the silly comments
they make now when that time—inevitability as the clock
turns—comes around.

—I'd be interested in knowing just how old MeisterEckhart
   and Aquascoot are...  guys?

The only time you seem to respond on this forum is when you have a codger spat.

LOL... as I expected.  Too fearful of telling us how old you are.

How pathetic.   All piss and wind.      Cheesy

Piss and wind, eh!

Not that I'd recommend publishing personal details, but did you reveal your age?

What you posted was that you're a Boomer.

That puts you in the age range of 60 to 78...

Judging from your posts, I'm guessing you're close to the latter end.

Pretty good guess!     Grin

I'm 77, born in September 1946.  I'm guessing that
I was dad's Christmas present to my mum after the
war was over LOL.

(BTW, I don't think someone's age can be considered
a personal identifier.)

It narrows things down quite a bit when doing a 'location' in Eastern Gippsland area.  Wink

But will Australia's upcoming sham of a Covid Inquiry take any notice? Probably not.

They'll be too busy lapping up all of the BS from people like Covid minimiser/wrong about everything Covid related Nick Coatsworth. Roll Eyes
