The Strine originates from the Irish speaking Irish that came here both as Convict and Free Settler (the one with gun to shoot all the 'helpless' indigenous inhabitants here on a whim). The Engish probably look 'down' on the Australian accents as uncouth. Just cultural cliche from a part of the world 'back there in the past' and even further back is America - where the West (Politics) is just a resurrection of the past. Britain will never die. It will just 'reclaim' America as its own. Britain, unlike Germany, France & Italy - will past the test and fade into the West (America) where it belongs.

Now Vietnam. How can one respect a load of Mercenaries going from here to go fight Yellow people in their own countries upon the whim of the most 'invasive' nation on the planet? Real poor form from Australians.
The Democrats (Unionists) may have Won a 'domestic civil war' (Civilian War?) against the Confederates. But Internationally they must be defeated for their blatant RACISM (RACE WAR) against Yellow Peoples. No wonder those Yellow People in Asia are 'up in arms' as if fearing ANOTHER invasion. The Democrats must hang! Let alone stay out of Taiwan.
Until America can prove itself to use PEACE, which is what Politics is for and not use WAR at the start of a RACE WAR gun. It must 'change'.

I noticed though from many stories and behaviours and experience personal views from those who volunteered to go and INVADE and those who were dragged by thugs to be thrown into it. Forced to 'murder' and 'kill' Yellow People because America wanted them dead because of their political difference and the desire to improve their part of the world as they see fit to it.
The 'Vibe' was that there were those who fought like American Soldiers and took the loss (failure) as a shame along with the Public opinion that they were a shame to the country in the first place for going in the first place. Real cliche 'victimhood' - but ironically a 'justified' one as well. As the 'People' REJECTED THEM in so many ways for their 'transgression' on another part of the world. But hey, lower the rank in the Military (in the Northern Hemsphere) the greater the 'victim-hood'.
Desert Storm, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan - these were all based upon 'retaliation' upon America being attacked. That's justified.

Then there are the other Vietnam Vets. Who didn't buy into that Victimhood. They hated Yellow people in a different way. A more 'cautious and fearful' manner as if not going to take the chance - to lose! No shame from them apparently.

It was like proud Ron Casey taking out the bigger 'Victimhood' Normie Rowe in a punch up. That's the difference between a very 'political' Ron Casey and Musician Normie Rowe (songs of victimhood like a broken Confederate).

So you see, there are as different views about the Vietnam Rules (War), not America.

Now the Vietnamese get revenge. Go to Cabramatta Train Station and others around Sydney and its all the same. All the White Junkies hanging on the platforms, I counted 30. Doing what Junkies do best... die. Yellow invasion turning Whities all around Sydney into Zombies (or Homosexuals).
All the white junkie chicks are ho's for the Yellow Dick.
Vietnamese have drugs in both pockets.
The 'dead' pill is for the Whities.
Most don't wake up in the morning.

ANZAC was based on WW1 & 2.
And associated more with Britain, than fighting for America.
These Wars 'for America' - a servitude mercenary murder show of force. Sardaukhars.
So I don't think any Wars Australia has been involved with after the World War, has been anything remotely 'ANZAC' in its actions.
They're best called things like 300 Spartans, Sardaukhar and other 'Hollywood' names they now name themselves with.
Better to serve a KING, than another KNIGHT.
That is the Holy Grail.

Fu_ck Vietnam and Fu_ck America.
Fu_ck you Lancelot.
Percival.

Some of the song lyrics use poetic license.

Like:

And Frankie kicked a mine
The day that mankind kicked the moon
God help me - he was goin' home in June.

Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon on 20th July 1969.

It's more complicated than that.

The Australian accent was born of the need for a 'lingua franca' among UK- and Irish-descent inhabitants of New Holland.

The term 'strine' is a recent (1965) reference to the broad Australian accent.

Was he?

The point of the lyric was that he was almost set to go home - a year later doesn't cut it.

The lyric could have been: 'he should've been home in June'.

You tell me.

What year is mentioned in the song lyrics?

The onus is on you to prove your claim.

There are many 'accents' here in Australia from long ago.
Just as there are States & Territories.
Nothing is overly uniform here. The 'formal' description of Strine is just an 'umbrella' description for lack of really doing some research. You could say a Federal minded person wrote it up that way.
Their accents are very different like Julia Gillard's SA accent to Pauline Hanson's QLD accent - even though they're both 'Rangas'.

Shumann's Strine accent is also like the Sea Shanty songs like Bound for South Australia originally. That too is Strine, but more closer to the Irish accent as if still stuck at sea and not landed on 'australian'.

The mood of the song includes the urgency of the moment.

Going home in June of the next year meant he had 11 long months to step on mines (when every step could be your last one on two legs).

Indeed.

But do you have evidence that "Some of the song lyrics use poetic license"?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

The onus is on Meister to prove his initial claim that "Some of the song lyrics use poetic license".

Thus far, he has been unable to do so.

Therefore, I accept his white flag.

Not from what I hear.
And when it comes to 'accents', I can trust better to what I 'hear', than read.
