There are some YouTubes about “porch pirates.”

Seems to be a US thing, not here so much.

Yeah I saw that on news last night!
Even plants aren’t safe!
My son used to live in Narre Warren in a new Estste with former partner, and he had nice plants near front door entry… only to be dug out and nicked!
It happened again.
Third time he chained it in concrete into the ground.

I said to hubby after seeing deliveries stolen… I’m glad I live in rural, my front porch is 200 metres away from road. Whew!

If and when we shift and downsize more so in suburban setting… I said my online orders will be to post office. If possible.
What can people do otherwise? To save their deliveries being stolen?

That is a shame.

In this area I rarely lock my back door.

you are very lucky Monk, you must be fairly remote-

That is horrible that someone can just come to your front door that way and help themselves like that- gets very  expensive I would imagine!!!

When I first saw that I thought America- but then it just shows the tight place people are in with their money at xmas-

Have it delivered to a post box, is the best option if you have to order online.

Terrible. Lips Sealed

It seems it will only get worse anytime as cost of living is having an impact on many people right across and this will create more petty thieving from other people (whom are struggling as well) as big corps and shop centres have a lot of security and cameras now.

Well - Melbadishu looks like seceding soon - got its own first nations parliament and all up and going... a nation united against itself in this way cannot stand... civil war edges closer every day.....

The rapid rise in the cost of living doesn't jibe with this
victim claiming "hundreds" of dollars worth of presents
being stolen.

Should we be spending that much on our kids at Christmas?
Or are we being led by the nose by the corporates and/or the
over-commercialisation of a supposed religious celebration?

I know what you mean re: over commercialism and yes it is getting away from the religious celebration.
It’s turned out to be a gift thing for kids… while they are young and able to have that joyfullness I don’t mind… they soon grow up to the more serious stuff of life.
As from a few years ago…as adults, my son’s in-laws and ourselves have decided not to spend money on gifts at Xmas, just spending time together instead. Eating and drinking merriment.
Our presence is present enough  Smiley

Well, I am not that far from a big city, just not that close either, over 120Km.

No meth in Tassie is likely the reason.

120km.
Monk -you're in the middle of nowhere.

I suggest you buy some binoculars so you can get a good view of the Milky Way under dark skies.
