The “The Sun” thread

It is not off topic here. It is not an environmental matter, won’t affect the environment or critters and gardens. It is pure science and we do not have a pure science board.

Some might be screaming “But but but Maunder Minimum.” What about it?

The Little Ice Age (LIA) was mostly a North Atlantic event—it was never concurrently global.

I have seen a couple of papers estimating the effect of a grand solar minimum (GSM.) A GSM will not cause more than 0.2°C, very tops 0.3°C, global cooling. We do have some hard data—Central England Temperatures from the last half or so of the Maunder Minimum.

So there is cooling you say?

Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is warming us globally by 0.14°C per decade (UAH6) or close to 0.2°C per decade (terrestrial series) or 0.23°C (RSS.) So we see AGW would wipe out the cooling inside or just over a decade. With ocean buffering of temperatures nobody will even notice any cooling.

Of course, this Cycle, SC25 is more active than the previous cycle SC24 so there is no GSM happening now.

So I am tracking the progress of the current cycle, sun spot number and area, flares, CMEs etc just out of interest and the thread is not off topic. I might go back and record the details for the first few months of this cycle.

I will also post associated bits of information about this cycle or about cycles generally. Hopefully some will find the info useful.
