Should have gone 20 years ago, it was nearly deserted and we often had whole temples to ourselves.

Last time I went was about 6 years ago and it was cactus. Chinese tourists now go there in staggering numbers, and they're often middle to low class Chinese on budget packages.

But I was inside the fence and around a bit for at least 3 hours. Oh. And then there was the time during the Keating years me mate and I snuck into the Lodge.

That’s the place that I find astounding, the history, the long drought that forced people to abandon their homes and move on. The way nature takes over.
Yes I’d love to see that place.
I’ve been to Bali and saw temples… we had to wear these particular wrap around garments before entering the temple.

Known about Angkor Wat since I was at High School .... the same way I learnt of the Taj Mahal, St Peters Basilica, Notre Dame etc.

The one I didn't know about until relatively recently is the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul Turkey.

Not the type of name I'd expect for a Mosque.

The Masjid al-Haram/Grand Mosque in Mecca is more like what I'd expect.

It's 463 klm from the Danube delta across the Black Sea to Istanbul/Constantinople.
