How can I set up an email account if I can't receive a verification code, either by email or phone?

My internet provider got out of the email business and I'm left with no email address

Third party email providers require a code to be typed in, but I can't receive it

Use a friend's mobile number. Arrange it so that when your friend receives the code, they phone you and you enter it.

Evidently, BuyArse2012's former communication provider has a moron exclusion policy.

Gmail is good.

]I have never provided a phone number to get an email address. Usually you can get around that sort of thing if you persist.

Gmail required a code when I tried to set it up. You've got to have an active email address to receive a code

Protonmail is the one I'd like to use, but my bank automatically blocked the subscription payment

So if I can get that paid somehow, I'll be in business again

I pity beginners trying to set up for the first time

Sounds like no-one wants to take responsibility for securing your identity. That way they don't have to talk to you if you get locked out of your account. They just send a link to some other email account. Like with your account on this forum. But that would get dangerous if your main account was with say your home internet provider and you lost access. You could always try having a circular reference - one gmail account and one outlook account that use each other as the backup email address.

My ISP dropped emails too but you had the choice to transfer to TMC (TheMessagingCompany) with no cost.  They just took over and I log in the way I always have.

Like some other providers, my provider got out of the email business and directed us to the Messaging Company

I didn't want to go there, so I searched around to find something else. But because I had requested that my old internet account with my old provider be closed, because they were crappy with bad service, my email address went with it

I'm now with Proton Mail with a different email address and I made the annual payment through PayPal. So eventually I got there and I'm up and running again

Thanks for the help - to everyone who did help

I went with The Messaging Company and everything is exactly the same.  Same email address and same log in page.

I've had the same email address for 25 years and didn't want to lose it.   No charges either.

I'm extremely happy with TMC and they're Australian.

If you currently have free email (with the TPG group) your service provider will cover any costs until September 2024 (the sponsorship period) - so nothing to worry about until then.

You start paying next year as TPG paid up to that point.

I know but I didn't use TPG for email.  I think they are all the same though and when I spoke to TMC they said there probably won't be any charges but, if there are, they'll be minimal.

So I'll wait until September and see.  If it's under $25 per year I'm happy because that's what I've had to pay after I switched ISPs but didn't want to lose my email address with my old ISP.

Protonmail is free for one personal email and you also get free VPN for one device thrown in. You don't have to pay for it. Based in Switzerland.

edit: You can then use that email address to join gmail or any of the others that want verification emails/sms sent.

They offer a free version. Mind you, you only get 500mb storage but that's not a deal breaker.
