That'll get someone a bullet to the back of the head. Obviously cut corners to make money, corruption. They've executed others for exactly this kind of thing.

An example of what the Chinese call Cha Bu Duo - meaning something like, 'if it looks good, it is good'.

It's rife throughout China - from 'tofu buildings' that literally melt in the rain to buildings that collapse during a windstorm.

It caused a lot of the lethal flooding in major Chinese cities: fake drainage systems, replete with 'metal' grids placed over concrete to make them appear to be drains.

One of the more comical ones is wind-powered lights that they have to turn on by plugging them into the mains, or stapling green plastic leaves to trees that have died from neglect.

If they were to charge everyone who cut corners with shoddy workmanship, 1 billion Chinese would be locked up.

Hi Set,
I posted an article a while back of how Chinese steel is inferior -
full of dangerous impurities that make it weak and brittle and
companies in the West have purchased it
for buildings and bridges etc.

China (and in some cases, even America) is like the saying
"Spider Silk is as strong as Steel"

...but Silk vaporises when you put a flame to it.

There was a flood and many deaths in China years ago when the wall supposed to protect people broke because of insufficient concrete and short cuts to save costs, The local admin that oversaw the work were executed. This makes the central govt lose face and is inexcusable, someone's head will roll.

It's difficult to pin it on any one person - if a trial was fair.

For steel and concrete -

You have:
the suppliers,
the manufacturers,
the Govt. inspectors,
the engineers,
the builders.

https://gensteel.com/building-faqs/building-comparisons/chinese-steel-quality-vs...

Some Chinese companies were found putting Boron in their steel to earn a tax rebate. This addition to the steel makes the metal crack easier and is an overall safety hazard. While there are some welding methods that can help prevent the metal from cracking during welding, but the exact amount of Boron added to the metal needs to be disclosed, which they often are not.

Differences in Manufacturing Standards

American steel manufacturers are held to a set of standards created by organizations like The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) that determine the appropriate chemistry mixes for different types of steel. These standards are intended as a safety precaution to ensure the right quality of metal is being used for the right product.

American steel requires some rigorous testing before it can be sold, but Chinese companies are not required to conduct these tests. These tests help keep buildings standing after a hurricane or earthquake and help prevent the steel from becoming brittle and beginning to crack when it is being welded.

That's the local admin's job todo the job. If they go cheap on every material, who is to blame? The CCP thinks it's the local govt that oversaw the project. BooM headshot!

I think the Chinese economy is strong.

They produce most of the cars, phones, fridges and washing machines in the world
Also about 18,000,000 TVs a month, each and every month

OK - as an example -
How would the local admin know if the cement had gone stale?
https://www.quora.com/How-long-can-you-use-cement-after-its-expiration-date

I had that problem buying cement from Bunnings.
There was no use by date on it and it was no good.
Old cement goes stale.

With every one of them requiring an under-the-table cut.

All of the above are associated with the CCP. Business of any significance cannot be done in China without 'guanxi' with the CCP - that costs.

The only way that anything can get built after everyone's been paid off is to cut corners to the point that the final product is guaranteed to fall apart.

Of course - Chinese stuff is poor quality.

I saw an engineering example of a cast Aluminium block from China.
When it was drilled into you could see huge air bubbles all through it.
