Ben Fordham did a podcast on "‘China takeover’ - Foreign buyers raiding Aussie real estate" that's worth a listen.

4 minutes.

https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/china-takeover-foreign-buyers-raiding-auss...

In the last financial year Chinese have spent $3.4 billion on Australian properties, $600 million from Hong Kong, $400 million from Vietnam, $300 million from Taiwan, $300 million from Singapore etc whilst many Aussies can't even afford to buy or rent.

The Chinese are tripping over themselves to get their money out of China before the CCP confiscates it or its worth is reduced to junk.

The Xi doctrine is that wealth and affluence have corrupted the Chinese psyche and must be stamped out.

No purchase today, and I was the only round eye bidding in a room full of dirty Chinese money. The winning bidder was so Chinese every one of his bids was ending with an 88. I pushed him all the way and threw in a few unlucky 4s to piss him off Smiley

Likely turn out the best result. Good luck next time.

Those figures are merely the official figures. The real picture is far worse.

Australia is the only country in the world foolish enough to allow such a high percentage of foreign ownership in residential and commercial real estate and of selling off its public infrastructure assets to foreign purchasers for a quick dollar.

Both the Libs and the ALP in NSW have been promising to limit foreign real estate purchases for decades and neither has done a thing about it.

And here we are!

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

What's the bet that a Chinaman will outbid you?

There's nothing inherently risky about the property, apart from the fact we could be biting off more than we can chew.

What is the universe trying to tell me?

It’s inherently risky just the same.

(I’m ever so glad you did NOT buy it).

Get some chicken bones and jiggle them around in a bag and then empty them onto the ground.
They should tell you to 'chicken out' of this one.

Which is good. When Australia goes to War with China - all those Properties and Estates will become forfeited and owned by anyone who wants to Squat in them for legal takeover.  Wink

Actually today we felt a bit bummed we didn't get it. It would have been a good long term money spinner.

Last month we looked at a place not far from us for sale, we wouldn't buy it as it's not a big enough upgrade, but it was all filthy dirty rich Chinese looking through it. One family arrived in 3 cars, I spotted a G-Wagon and a Lambo SUV. It obviously sold to a Chinaman.

Gotta say tho, I feel sorry for the people going for a first home who get out competed by Chinese.

Don't be surprised if I 'steal' a major slice of estate and infrastructure that is currently Chinese owned, right under their noses. Great ocean views.
...just waiting for China to start a war they won't be able to finish and you watch them all default and forced to forfeit on a lot that they own in this country.  Wink

I'm supposed to be attending a property auction tonight for a an investment property that will be really stretching us financially,  but a big risk big reward kind of thing.

So today, one thing after another has gone wrong, all minor stuff but just annoying and time consuming and making it really hard for me to get everything done and to the auction on time.

Is it:
A: The universe warning me not to go to the auction and buy the place.
B: The universe conspiring against me because it doesn't want ME to buy the place.
C: Just a random string of events that would go unnoticed on any other day?

Weird when that happens… nothing … then a cluster of annoyances and distractions!

Oh so that’s what’s happening!
We’ve got Chinese buying vineyards, and lately, Chinese are buying Woolies supermarket in Monbulk!
A sleepy little village like Monbulk!  Shocked
And that’s just what I know locally!

The last annoying thing that happened last night, on the way to pick up my wife to go to the auction I stopped for petrol. The pump I used must have been a bit defective because it was a bit wet with petrol like it was seeping out near the trigger. Usually no biggy but I was pressed for time, and took 5 mins in the washroom getting the petrol smell off my hands.

It was just a day like that all day!

Aah I get it… these usual annoying things just seem more amplified when it will annoy the most!
