I'm definitely gonna check this mini-series out, but it sure does get mixed reviews.

There are reviewers out there giving it 5 stars, and others giving it just 1.

"Schmaltzy" is a word I keep reading.

Well, I'll watch it for myself and give my opinion afterwards.

I'll pick up the book next time I go to the library.

TV Series

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has adapted the hit second world war novel with all the subtlety of ’Allo, ’Allo! Prepare for twee acting, a woeful script and accents that get vurse and vurse

It is terrible. The acting is almost uniformly bad. The dialogue gets worse and worse (or if it’s Von Rumpel’s, vurse and vurse). All nuance is lost, all thought has been excised and it feels both drearily slow and stupidly rushed

Book

This novel will be a piece of luck for anyone with a long plane journey or beach holiday ahead. It is such a page-turner, entirely absorbing: one of those books in which the talent of the storyteller surmounts stylistic inadequacies and ultimately defies one's better judgment.

Thanks Greg, I do agree there are some shortcomings in the acting and I guess it may not appeal to all, but I really enjoyed it as a solid story and well filmed to boot. I found it a refreshing change from a lot of the dross we are fed these days. Happy viewing!
