I did do two years of physics at Uni.

I have also discussed how molecules that absorb IR behave—with a photon with wavelength equal to the distance of two atoms in a molecule—the C—O bond in CO₂ the atom vibrates and various possible ways.

This is analogous with an electron absorbing a photon jumping to a higher orbit.
