The Problems with IQ as a measure

A high IQ does not mean you are smart.

There is typically a racial bias to the testing.

It does not measure emotional intelligence.

It does not measure social intelligence.

It does not measure practical thinking.

It does not measure common sense.

Most people considered geniuses tend to have moderately high IQ measures.

There are people with high IQ's that never have an original idea.

A high IQ does not mean that you are smart. (repeat)

Then there is persistence, the ability to keep going when immediate results are disappointing. Persistence might need to keep you going for some time!

Starting a new small business is not easy, especially when your business partner sells your output for a lot less than was necessary.

Then when it was obvious the govt would kill your business to see that and start another business.

Oh yeah and when the Tax Office wants you to come on Friday with $20K cash and you walk there with $500 in your pocket. . . needed ALL my communication skills to walk out of there a winner.

IQs are very low in Melbourne -

many people can't speak English -
I bet many are illiterate.
During the referendum vote many people were unable to
read the ballot and also couldn't write Yes or No.
They can't read or write.

The successive Govts. have brought in millions of illiterate people from overseas -
God knows what we're supposed to do with them?

And not just in the US. One only needs to look at this forum for proof of that.

Reminds me of an "Irish Exam Paper" that was doing the rounds in the mid 1970's. I saw it in a CBD office that I worked in at the time. Here's a few of the questions (from memory):

Who won World War 2?
Who came second?
What is a silver dollar made of?
What time is News at Ten on?
There have been six Kings of England named George, the latest being George VI, name the other five.
Name the odd man out: Cardinal Heenan, The Pope, Jack the Ripper, Archbishop of Canterbury.
In the 1975 sheepdog trials how many were found guilty?

And a few more that I've forgotten.

What has caused it?

Is it junk food?

Is it alcohol and drug abuse?

Just remember that IQ is absolutely not the same as knowledge.

Boomers can likely answer all of the above questions but are the first to lose their life savings to Nigerian Princes, Loverboy scams and fall for crappy "as seen on TV" products that never work but they never learn.

I know the older generations like to make fun of the younger but your arguments can be used against you and often apply to you more than you realise.

The problem faced by lower IQ people is they're often not equipped with the skills to recognise their deficiencies, so they simply don't know.

The downside of this is that they often and easily fall victim to cognitive dissonance.

But they still feel the urge to understand their environment, a desire for superiority, and certain personality traits such as paranoia and egocentrism.

This is why so many people here are far too easily lured in by conspiracy theories.

It gives them answers they can easily understand, that sense of superiority over others who aren't afraid of saying "we just don't know yet" or because they think they're the holder of some hidden truth and if you challenge their ideas by posting information that can debunk what they believe they take it as a personal attack and build that combative nature into their personality.

You should be very familiar with this Bobby.

If they had a higher IQ and were armed with some better critical thinking skills it wouldn't be an issue.
