A Tesla battery fire at one of Queensland’s first large-scale battery storage sites could burn for days, as authorities warn nearby residents to stay indoors to avoid hazardous fumes.

Emergency services were called at Bouldercombe, south of Rockhampton, about 7.45pm on Tuesday.

The fire was contained, but crews were advised by Tesla to allow the fire to burn out, prompting a warning to local residents to stay indoors to avoid the hazardous smoke.

The battery, nicknamed ‘Big Bessie’, is one of 40 lithium Megapack 2.0 units supplied by Tesla on a site privately owned by renewable energy and storage developer Genex. Genex said in a statement that no one was on site at the time of the incident.

Tesla know if you put out their battery fires they can ignite again.

Any other types of fires where they say don't bother trying to put it out let it burn out?

You want a reference to know that smoke from burning tyres is no good for you?

No; your claim was "no worse than smoke from burning tyres".

So about it guido troll. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Ohh my god you really are an idiot

However, some synthetic rubbers, when burnt, can release chemicals such as cyanide and carbon monoxide. Both of these substances are potentially deadly when inhaled in high enough quantities

are battery fires worse then death you dumbarse?

Not so.  Emissions from burning Lithium-ion cells
are far more toxic to humans than those from
burning rubber tyres.

At elevated temperature the fluorine content of the
electrolyte in LI-ion cells and, to some extent, other
parts of the battery such as the polyvinylidene
fluoride (PVdF) binder in the electrodes, can form
gases such as hydrogen fluoride HF, phosphorus
pentafluoride (PF5) and phosphoryl fluoride (POF3),
ranging between 20 and 200 mg/Wh of nominal
battery energy capacity.

A Tesla battery pack has a capacity of 95kWh, which
means if fully burned, could release 19g of fluorides
into the atmosphere.  Which is why firemen must wear
SCBA when attacking a Li-ion fire.

A lethal concentration of atmospheric hydrogen
fluoride is 30 ppm, whilst that released from a
burning vehicle is 170 ppm/10 mins.

The release of hydrogen fluoride from a Li-ion battery
fire can therefore be a severe risk and an even
greater risk in confined or semi-confined spaces.

Burning tyres also release significant amounts of toxic
pollutants into the air. These pollutants include sulphur
dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon
monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs),
and particulate matter (PM), including fine particles
known as PM2.5 (0.0025mm dia).

But none are immediate killers.

Actually Baron - The serious issue has been making global news. It’s also behind why these cars are so expensive to INSURE.

COULD WE ALL IGNORE THE DUMBARSE FRODO BLOWFLY? IT ONLY TURNS UP TO ABUSE/TROLL/HIJACK TOPICS ALL ACROSS OZPOL WITH ITS SINGLE DRUG FRIED BRAIN CELL.

Cheers
