In Australia even if someone had genuine death threats made against them -
they are not allowed to buy a gun to defend themselves.
Their only legal solution to avoid being murdered
would be to go overseas and change their name.

If they did use a gun to defend themselves and killed an assassin
they would be charged with murder and gun offences.

IIRC, the Aussie had just got out of said parked taxi.
And to be forensic of his exact words, there was no threat of another bottle being thrown so the act of pinning was punitive and not preventative.
