Your post has upset me. Have you been able to pay your gas bill? Have you reached out for support? If you have could you please tell the forum what you have done to lower that shocking gas bill? Your experience may well prove to be an opportunity for all of us to learn something more about gas and electricity bills AND how to lower them.

I like to garden and so I bought trees suitable for here, currants, berries, cherries, apples and pears. So will make cider, perry, country wines and fruit flavored meads, melomels (and maybe a metheglin with pepperberries.)

So I needed ≥ 1000 sqm sized block.


I LOVE it here! Friendly people, the shapes of fog in the morning, kookaburras laughing with happiness too!

That big villa we should have held onto and sold for over $1m, because business partner went mad (only explanation) so we sold it for $150K. Prick left me well over $100K in debts. I am $700K worse of because of that prick.

Wasn’t for that could have afforded something bit closer to a big city, maybe a slightly better house but so what, I LOVE it here! Next week the land will be graded, I will mark out where the trees are to go, an auger will drill 30cm holes, I will square these with a long handled spade and plant my trees.

With my Saxon wood burning heater i do not need to feel cold but electricity at nearly $200/month is tough. I try to reduce this buying the induction plate and airfryer and taking shorter showers as well as replacing globes here with LED globes and switching lights off as soon as not needed. Cooking and hotwater are electrical—no reticulated gas.

I enquired re solar panels—shape of the roof makes that impractical, dammit. Considering extending the front roof to make a 2.4m or wider verandah that will be enclosed with lots of glazing, a sort of conservatory. Master bedroom will have window replaced with a sliding door. Then the roof will hold enough panels especially as two chimneys (lounge and kitchen) can be removed to make eastern and western spans of the roof able to hold more panels. Will need finance for this and is longer term stuff.
