Casino cash splashing

Star casino given break from 'killer' pokies tax
Luke Costin  11 August 2023

'The Perrottet government had announced a move to  levy duties of up to 60 per cent to bring casino taxes into line with those at hotels and clubs. But Mr Mookhey said casino data and independent assessment showed the policy would have shuttered Star casino. The casino's owner has faced regulatory issues and fines exceeding $200 million in recent years after inquiries in NSW and Queensland exposed illegal behaviour.'

If a business is fined and has tax problems, the public will throw in cash to keep their profits rolling. Star Casino pays court penalties and traffic fines for anyone who asks.

More than 80% of Australian adults engage in
gambling of some kind, which is the highest rate
of gambling in the world.

This number includes 4% of the adult population
who play the pokies once a week, accounting
for some 62% of their annual gambling spend.

Gambling is a significant public health issue, with
around 80,000 to 160,000 Australian adults
experiencing significant problems from gambling
and a further 250,000 to 350,000 adults
experiencing moderate risks that may make them
vulnerable to problem gambling.

Gambling is a form of addiction. Those with a
gambling problem can have similar chemical
changes in their brains to those seen in
people addicted to alcohol or drugs.

Gambling Help Online is a good 24/7 starter
for anybody addicted to gambling.

And just a reminder, playing Lotto is gambling.

Mr Mookhey's webpage says he was Minister for the Gig Economy. This included pokies, pork barrels and tax fixing rorts.

Yes. https://www.aap.com.au/news/investor-delight-as-star-casino-gets-310m-tax-break/...
'A tax reprieve for embattled casino heavyweight Star Entertainment has delighted investors. Shares in the $1.6 billion gaming group leapt 25 per cent. The changes are expected to generate an extra $54 million in its first three years and an extra $529 million over the decade'.

Obviously, the special mates $529mill jackpot is handed out because Star is so generous in paying public debts for crimes. You can check with Mookhey at https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/members/Pages/member-details.aspx?pk=135

I couldn't find any mention of "Star Casino pays
court penalties and traffic fines for anyone who
asks
" in either of your links.

Please elaborate.     Cool

They must do. They must. Why else would they get preferential, special tax privileges from parliament?
