Disturbing things people say in their sleep
Aug 1st, 2023 at 10:28am

A co-worker years ago told me that her husband would mumble things like “Stop it, Mum” in a very annoyed tone. And the next day he would get short with her when she told him about it.

I dreamed that I was having a fight with my father, which included me swearing a lot. I heard my father come into my room to going "Oi! Oi-oi-oi! That's enough". Following talking in my sleep statements included "You want another go?". I can't remember what Dad said. But, he told me later on that I was swearing in my sleep.

That's a known problem for any bloke who's only 4"-11" tall.

(I'll get my coat.)

I once had a partner years ago who would occasionally call out to his long-dead grandfather for help, but in Swedish: “ Hjälp mig morfar!” It was just a little unnerving.

In my dream I beg and plead and cry for mum to stop so I can reach her. No matter how fast I run I can’t run as fast as her. She’s always looking back at me to see where I am and she’s smiling and her smile is just so beautiful but it also prompts me to run faster to reach her and never let her go. Hubby wakes me up at that point and oh man that pisses me off big time! I miss my mum 🥺

That kind of dream is not unique. I have a friend who lost his parents. He sometimes dreams about seeing them at the end of a supermarket isle, and as he tries to get closer, they forever keep out of his reach.

Never had that dream. Have not cried for Mum tho I thought I would have by now.

I had to put my grief on hold after Dad died to be a tower of strength for Mum. Maybe I am too good now at putting grief on hold? Two weeks after Demi was euthanised I suddenly cried for her, thought something similar might happen with Mum: not so far it hasn’t.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop crying for my mum. I love showers - the noise of the water and the bathroom fan means you can cry more easily without others in the house hearing you. When you’re asleep you don’t have much control over crying. Dreams can betray deep seated grief and loss.

Anyway....I’m sorry if my posts in this topic have upset others.

Oh. I just caught this post as I was logging off.

Makes you wonder if our parents are trying to tell us a message eg : We see you but you’re not yet ready to be where we are. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah, but there is nobody on the planet that is 11 inches tall, never mind being 4 inches tall.

The biggest nightmare I have had is dreaming that I was involved in a game of cricket. Fielding a ball, I could not throw the ball back to the keeper as my arm would not move -- given that I was sleeping on my arm at the time. I had to wake up and let the blood flow down my arm again. The batting team in my dream scored 5 runs all ran. I did not sleep enough to find out if I was booted off the team.
