Rats/mice infestation in Tasmania during Winter

Anyone know why Dumbarse Drunk could possibly be experiencing such a plague inside his corrugated iron shed home?

I’m thinking it’s definitely an Environment issue. A SQUALID ENVIRONMENT to be exact. Let’s see how we can help the forum Drunk resolve yet another ridiculous drama affecting his existence 😂😆🤣

More likely the rain did it. Just mice tho, and I knew it could happen—the first day I moved in I saw a sheet of sticky trap the previous occupant had left.

Awwww isn’t it precious, Larry the HC flat renter jealous I could buy a house.

Could have had a house built to my specs—strawbale infill, conservatory, some nifty electronic features etc but stupid bloody business partner cost me at least $700,000.

Awwwww!

The more Larry carps on about my house the more I know he is jealous. Grin

I’ve even chatted to our neighbours (who have lived here longer than us) about rats and mice. No one has ever seen them anywhere in or around their homes.

Note : We live in a very clean neighbourhood where neighbours are very house and garden proud.

Just set rat and mice traps - they never fail to get them.
Don't put them outside or they will kill the birds and other critters.

Sticky traps, despite what people say are fine—but put them in spaces with low “ceilings”—under a fridge say, spaces like that.

Three mice caught in traps and the poison I put out where Socks couldn’t reach had been eaten from.

No sound or sight of mice or their droppings for a couple weeks now.

The experience from the time we had a mouse infestation in the shop served me well. Three days from setting traps and poison—no mice.

I think you might find that the mice and rats in your area are near non-existent because of where you live. You might live well away from bushland, in an urban area that has a few well-used highway routes that act as a barrier for any invasive pest like rodent. The cats in your suburb probably take care of the mice problem.

Whereas, although I live off a main road, I would be about 1km away from the start of the Parkhurst/Kawana bushland (up near Farm Street). Any sort of rodent can scamper its way down towards my suburb and find breeding places along the way. Cats do not number nearly as much as dogs do in my area. My neighbour's cat keeps the mouse numbers down around my house.

I have had one snake in my yard. I killed it with my mower. It reared up at me as I was heading for it during my mowing. I raced up over the snake with the mower and put it into pieces. Normally, the kookaburras deal with baby snakes before they get a chance to grow up and become a problem.

It killed the rats around the place. But the cat next door decided to feed on the dead rats. The cat ingested the poison and was sick for days.

Not once have I bought these poisonous chemicals nor have I ever bought a mouse trap. Not once! Thank God. It must be a cleanliness thing I reckon and being proactive in keeping food wrapped up and packed away.

And Rocky I do live in a leafy suburb that’s well away from highways, shops and train stations. It’s very quiet except for the birds. Some of our neighbours have cats but these are very expensive ones which stay inside. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If it takes 1.5 hours to drive to a semi-rural area near Sydney, then you are living in an urban environment. Compared to me where the outskirts of town (that lead to semi-rural areas -- farms and the like) are only 1.5km away from where I live.

Semi-rural areas are places that were once farmland but are now close to the city/towns that they are not actually farmland.
