A parliament that has the constitutional capacity to appoint whomsoever they choose, and give them any powers, is an affront to a democratic society. Australians need to have this pointed out, if they cannot figure it out for themselves.

A Yes vote will create a legal precedent, and why shouldn't every ethnicity have a "Voice" too?

The point is this land would have been conquered by someone, it could not have gone any other way once it was known about. Out of all the colonising powers around the world since 1776, I think they got the best deal going.

t is a crazy, preposterous notion that ALL people with even a drop of Aboriginal blood are entitled to special treatment, or that they are ALL united in one cohesive category that speaks with one Voice. As if everyone with even a little bit of European blood - from a Russian grandmother to Portugese great-grandfather, a Swedish uncle to a Maltese cousin - belonged to a coherent category speaking with one united Voice.

Ownership of property does not predate written records. Prior to ownership, possession and defense were imperatives. As societies became more civilised, some order had to be established, thus the idea of legal ownership came into being. Certainly the Aborigines did not have such an idea, but that should not disinherit them in a civilised society. The question becomes whether Commonwealth law stands. If it were not for English written records, the indigenous would have no idea of Australia the continent or country, except for some primitive legends much of which are being created as we speak, by elders who were born in the 1960s, long after tribalism disappeared.

It doesn't matter if Aborigines had 'ownership'. Each tribe had their territory, written down as ownership or not. This is our system that we imposed on them. Suddenly imposing a new system on them does not automatically negate their system
