That's the problem.  "We" have been imposing OUR expectations on those we dispossessed violently.

Did it not occur to you that they were perfectly content with their way of living and had no need to seek change?

I might as well toss you into a Court Room and have an expectation that you will know the Law as I do.

That makes as much sense as your point.

In reality did it not occur to you that that ideal/utopia would still not be in existence today even if the Brits had not colonised the continent?

Your point is frivolous virtue signaling about the noble savage.

A woke wanker ex-shytser to boot.

Aussie has been behaving strangely ... as though he himself is an Aboriginal who has something to gain personally should the Voice succeed.

I don’t know but it sounds as though there’s some personal connection going on here. God I hope he isn’t foolishly relying on some vague Ancestry DNA result.

Especially if he is using the free version of ancestry.com.au

I could imagine Aussie putting in his details. Then the program spits out "You are an aborigine. You are free to shout 'Gibs me dat'".

Pfft. You literally would not take "no" for an answer.

I'd accept 'no' if it was for a reason other than whitey does not want to give even a mere token, a nod, a gesture or a handshake to the boong.  It's as simple as that.

Naked selfish bigotry and more suppression for the sake of naked selfish bigotry and suppression.

No manners.  Nothing.

Altering the Constitution based on race is not a "mere token" that should be given.

This whole Voice agenda is being driven by Urban Aboriginal activists - not those who are in remote communities & marginalised.

Really.  Link please.  Ima sorry, but I doubt a train driver, even one who was paid an absurd amount like $120,000.00 pa to drive a bus on tracks would have fuqqing clue about what lead to the Urluru Statement of the Heart.  That is clear from what he has posted.

If the Spanish or Dutch arrived here first we wouldn't even be having this discussion and if they were so happy throwing sticks out in the outback (without beer) let them go back to it.

Cheesy Grin

Brave, fearless Arssie does as he is told by the government and Big Abo! Radical!

Brandis makes good points that are systematically ignored by the Yes side:

FIRST -  EVERY constitutional referendum, the burden of persuasion is on those wanting change.
But Albo, Arssie, Mothra, Bbwian et al have, in fact, reversed the onus – by insisting that the Voice is a self-evidently good thing, and by demanding that opponents or sceptics justify themselves. Scathing attacks on the No case are not just the opposite of the “respectful” debate Albo has said he wants; they are an insult to everyone who is not persuaded that the Voice is a good idea.
Burney is an unconvincing advocate at the best of times. As for Noel Pearson – is it any wonder that No campaigners are over the moon every time he opens his mouth? An angry, self-righteous proponent is never as persuasive as a courteous, methodical critic.

Second, quit the moral bullying. The wisdom of constitutional change is something about which reasonable people can differ. It is not about whose motives are purer or who is a better person. Burney captured the morally hectoring tone of the Yes campaign last week when she channelled not Clinton this time, but Michelle Obama: “When they go low, we go high.” People who are sceptical about the Voice are not taking the low road; they are merely exhibiting the same constitutional conservatism which has seen 36 of 44 referenda fail.

Third, at least pretend the debate is a level playing field.  If this is to be an authentic national debate, both sides must be heard. Yet so far, virtually all we have had from the political establishment and its surrogates in business, sporting organisations, public broadcasters, churches and NGOs has been advocacy for the Yes case. Does anyone who watches the ABC have any doubt that it is barracking for Yes (notwithstanding its charter obligation of political neutrality)? I suspect one of the very reasons support for Yes is sinking is because Australians don’t like having the establishment force its view down our throats. We are famously contrary whenever we are told by politicians and community “leaders” what we ought to think.

There is no burden either way.  People will listen to whatever is argued (or not) and decide.

The yes case is what I have been posting.  The no case is hysterical baseless fearmongering mixed with absolute dishonest garbage and rubbish.

I maintain that those who vote no are being selfsh and do not want to see the black fella get anything not even a token recognition for the fact that they were violently dispossessed by a democracy they had no say in, and were denied a say in for SIX DECADES after Australia became a Nation in 1901.  Further, it was not until 1984 that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were finally treated like other voters and required to enrol and vote in elections.

By then, they were well and truly fuqqed over by whitey.

I can imagine that those who have posted their 'no vote' here would have been advocating that the black fella NOT be given that right to vote back in the early 60s, yes, Sore End.

Of course there is a burden on the yes side, they want change, they need to justify that change. If you make a claim, it's up to you to prove your case and they are making a claim.

As I said, I'm voting no because I won't give government a blank cheque, if they want me to want it, they need to provide me with every detail. I won't buy sight unseen.

On the other hand, the way the yes side likes to call names to get their way, well I abstained from voting on gay marriage because of the way the yes campaign went about demonising and attacking people that had a differing opinion. If I did vote yes it would validate their methods.

Edit: And yes I consider it racist. No race should be in the Constitution.

And now they want to overturn democracy and impose a racial division on Australia even though most of them are MIXED race and many are have more white blood than the millions of non-European Immigrants and their descendants.

It is a crazy, preposterous notion that ALL people with even a drop of Aboriginal blood are entitled to special treatment, or that they are ALL united in one cohesive category that speaks with one Voice. As if everyone with even a little bit of European blood - from a Russian grandmother to Portugese great-grandfather, a Swedish uncle to a Maltese cousin - belonged to a coherent category speaking with one united Voice.

You want to talk about 'methods?' How about the method of spreading fear of boogiemen under the bed, outright lies and a failure to deal with and confront what has been said about the reality about this simple benign recognition.  I will call people who use those methods for what they are...lying cowards.

You have been told that there is no power for this Voice to direct anyfuqqingthing, no veto, nothing other than a capacity to sit in a corner and send smoke signals which can be willfully ignored by Government and the Executive if they choose to do so.

What doubt do you have Setanta?  Do you reckon those who are telling you that are lying bastards?  Do you reckon those who said exactly that during the second reading of the Bill can be ignored in any High Court challenge?

You are just grasping at the convenient coward's excuse proposed by your fellow scaremonger Dutton.

Enjoy that bed with him.

What a dumbarse statement.

The answer to that tripe would be NO - just like voting for the Voice .... they apparently don't have ....

yet there are dozens, to hundreds to thousands of depts, organisations, land councils & Aboriginal corporations & specific groups that freely lobby politicians & Govts......

all the phukkin time.

As well as all the politicians that identify as Aboriginal & in particular the Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney.

You would expect that indigenous Australians could have made something out of the continent, instead of living a Stone Age existence.

If the Spanish or Dutch arrived here first we wouldn't even be having this discussion and if they were so happy throwing sticks out in the outback (without beer) let them go back to it.

Do you have any evidence to suggest they were not happy little stick throwing vegemites before 'we' violently dispossessed them, Red Lily the Banned?

This is a moronic, Arssie fallacy, that they somehow CHOSE to be stuck in the Neolithic Age, that they could have developed but didn't want to because they were happy. Just stupid.

It is self evident Sore End.  Maybe that is a concept way above your pay grade.
