When you’re a full blooded European...esp Mediterranean (like I am)...ANYONE who is your parent’s vintage is an Uncle or an Aunty.

That’s how we are brought up. From the get go. It’s hard for me (and my siblings and cousins etc) to see old people any other way because of our upbringing.

Our KIDS don’t follow this “rule”. Why? They’re Aussie born n bred and their parents (ie me and my husband) are Aussie born n bred so in just 1 generation so much has changed. The kids don’t look European/Mediterranean...they look like they’re from Sweden or Norway lol. They have Aussie names AND Aussie ways. Their 1st language is English. Their 2nd language is Greek and 3rd language is Italian. Note : English is my 2nd language.

Anyway ... the point is this: It took just 1 generation - the kids look different and behave different. Why? They are bona fide Aussies.

They don’t go around saying we’re Greek/Italian/French/German/English. They say we’re Aussies.

And that’s how it should be!
