So Australia sent its troops off to Afghanistan to fight as Mercenaries for the Privatised Political nation known as the USA. Could have called the ADF as Wagner.

The SAS considered themselves as the 300 Spartans.
There's an 'Ego' right there of being up themselves.

The SAS & ADF considered Afghans as 'Savages' just as the Americans taught them to do.
Americans are third on the list after the NAZI's (2nd) and Soviets (1st) in regards to committing atrocities during WW2, with a large gap to other nations.
USA - not the best nation to follow and makes you wonder what they got up to in Vietnam besides heaps of substance abuse?

Navy Divers do not pick the worst or the 'best' - as the best tend to defy the orders of the 'group mentality' and go it alone. It's all about themselves. The Navy Divers prefer the 'Grey Zone' of a successful group and negate the over-achievers and under-achievers.

Possibly 'Smith' was an Over-Achiever who brought discord and disharmony to the group mentality of his fellow SAS?
The stand-alone Medals for him and not his other fellows may prove this?

To shoot an 'unarmed' Civilian is a War Crime.
Sure, he may have indeed been a 'Terrorist' armed with a phone and relaying information to his fellow Terrorists. His behaviour upon being busted showed his fear and guilt almost immediately. But he was not armed.

The ADF high command or the person in charge should be held accountable firstly for allowing this to happen. It's not like he had tens of thousands under his wing. Smith is obviously guilty like Icarus - he flew too high and now falls to a greater low.

But this is what you get when Australia involves itself in the dirty wars of the world's most invasive nation that needs to be held accountable for its International Crimes (Democrats) like the Confederation was held accountable for its Domestic Crime (Civil War).

Nothing has been proven yet

But we should look at our own society before we condemn our soldiers

A 3yold boy was stabbed to death. A young woman was beaten to death. A teenager and man were shot to death ... all in the last week, here, in Australia

There's been countless domestic violence murders of both women and children in recent years

A wife was jailed for killing her husband with a poisoned biscuit and given a lenient sentence for the premeditated murder

Two men were run over by a car and killed by a drunk driver the other day

This type of violent society is not worth putting your life on the line for, all soldiers should quit the military until we get a bit of law and order in the streets and homes

The soldiers are probably picking up mischief from their own society and acting as if it is normal

So you say he will appeal but have no idea why or on what grounds.

I say he will appeal out of sheer stupidity and arrogance, and he will lose that appeal.

The Judge has made findings of fact and no appeal court is going to upset those findings unless there was no credible basis for making them in the first place and that is far from the case in this matter.
