So you agree that you do get more moronic every day. Glad you're willing to admit it.

I swear you get dumber by the day.
The 'left' were drowning people? How moronic can you get?

Your reading comprehension gets worse every day John.
.

so you didn't say 'the left had come to adopt a business practice of drowning vulnerable people at sea'?

Or are you running from your comments again?

The coalition drowned people who had been turned around and sent back - They drowned after they had reached safety.

Corresponding to Boat people travelling to Australia being stopped was an increase of boat people crossing the Mediterranean where a great many more drowned making a longer trip in more dangerous conditions.

People didn't stop trying to find safety they were forced to take even greater risks.

Overall refugee deaths at sea increased with the action we took.

Sorry FD but you rather nailed yourself here. It looks like he understood what you said better than you did.

You'll have to explain that one. Are you suggesting more people drowned at sea as a result of tighter immigration policy? Who is forcing them to come to Australia?

Does anyone here think it is a good idea to start jailing people for insulting politicians?

When People stopped coming to Australia the immediate impact was an increase of people drowning in the Mediterranean. Refugees took a significantly greater drowning risk when the safer option was blocked.

No but I am open to thinking about what should happen to people who don't insult them.  Smiley

Well, it does not go the other way. Especially when they make illegal statements against you. So, it should not be a gaoling offence to insult a politician.

You think the Timor sea is safer than the Mediterranean?

How much did the numbers go up by?

And who was forcing them to cross the Mediterranean if they could not cross the Timor? Are you invoking some sea god you haven't told us about?

I was under the impression that the seasonal flow of people smuggling (right now at a peak) did not stop. The off-shore detention only did a little to slow the flow of people trying to get to Australia. But, it never stopped. And many of the people who tried to be boat people refugees were Sri Lankan. Ten years ago, they had an argument in favour of being considered refugees. Now, the Sri Lankans coming to Australia can now only be considered tourists.

Somehow, I doubt South Asians want to risk another boat journey to Europe, when arrival by plane and then claiming refugee status is so easy over there in Europe.

It's just what happened is all. They stopped coming to Australia and the people drowning in the Mediterranean jumped. It's just the facts.

who was forcing them

They were escaping looking for a life a future. When one option is closed they choose another. In this case the results were not ideal.

The stats seem to indicate that something about the seas the boats or conditions make it a more dangerous trip it could even be the monitoring. We do a good job of patrolling those waters, we likely saved many lives.

Anyway the point is that stopping the boat people coming to Australia did not mean that people stopped drowning it just changed where they drowned.

But you haven't said what happened, or what the facts are. How many drowned?

No sea on earth would be as crowded as the Mediterranean.

The narrows of the Mediterranean are worse than the Timor?  Who'd 've thunk that?  More to do with numbers and closer proximity to Andalusia... wait a minute.... Spain....
