Sorry, wrong address

US police shoot man dead after responding to wrong address

US authorities in north-western New Mexico have released body camera footage of police officers opening fire and killing a home owner after they showed up at the wrong address in response to a domestic violence call.

The video released by the Farmington Police Department on Friday — just over a week after the April 5 night-time shooting — showed officers arriving at the home.

They walked up to the front door, passing the address that was posted on the home and illuminated by an exterior light, knocked on the door and announced themselves.

While knocking twice more, the officers can be heard asking a dispatcher to confirm the address and to tell the caller to come to the door. The dispatcher states the address of a home across the street.

It was soon after that the home owner, armed with a handgun, opened the door and the officers immediately began shooting, firing multiple rounds as they backed away. The man can be seen dropping to the ground.

About a minute afterwards, a woman can be heard screaming inside the home and more shots ring out.

Authorities have said the man's wife returned fire from the doorway, not knowing who was outside, prompting the officers to fire again.

She was not injured but could be heard screaming and crying after the second volley of shots were fired.

The US has the world's second highest gun death rate, after Brazil.

Quote:
In contrast to the U.S. and Latin America, gun deaths are extremely rare in countries like Japan, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Australia. These countries have implemented incentives or passed legislation to decrease the number of firearms in circulation. For example, in July 2021, Australia implemented a permanent gun amnesty program, in which unregistered firearms could be anonymously surrendered at police stations.

Mort has a plan: stop publishing the names of mass shooters. Apparently, without all the attention, they'll give up their plans and stay home instead. Maybe just kill themselves.

Of course, the attention-seeking mass shooters will be forced to think up new ways to get their name in the papers. Assassinate a prez? Blow up a government building? Hijack a plane?

They can rape, murder, bring in drugs and some, I assume, can just be good people.

Anything to keep more guns in the hands of more Americans.

The answer is more guns.
Home owners need to protect themselves from the police.
His gun wasn't big enough.

He shouldn't have pulled a gun on police, it's illegal.

It's only legal if they're coming for your guns or trying to vax your kid or they're trying to stop you entering the Capitol to take back your country.

So the Police come to the wrong address and murder the home owner. How is that a mass shooting unless you consider the mass of Police shooting a Citizen a mass shooting? The Police don't get a lot of opportunities to show how macho they are so waking up some poor bastard and shooting him full of holes really makes their day! As the rest of our culture collapses the quality of Police candidates also declines.

Anyone can bang on your door and scream they are the Police, it doesn't mean they are. It is a common trick to get a home owner to open their doors to strangers, sometimes with tragic results. I know I am not doing anything illegal so if the Police have questions they can wait until daylight!

I agree, Mort. As your culture becomes more trigger happy, cops become more dangerous. You've gotten to the stage where a knock on the door is met with a gun. Every domestic situation has the potential to become a Mexican standoff.

Australia, Japan, most of Europe - perfectly safe and nothing to worry about. No one has guns. People trust the police. In fact, the quality of candidates is good because there's room for promotions and cops don't have to spend their first two years nearly getting killed patrolling neighbourhoods in Iraq war-style military convoys.

That's why your culture's collapsed. Everyone - from Walmart managers to cops on the beat have to follow regulated safety protocols and fear guns.

You don't even notice it. It would be unthinkable to answer a doorknock in Australia with a weapon. You have to do it.

The old boy's blaming the tinted races for your wrong address issues, Mort.

You get that sort of thing when lowly-educated, superior-race-sorry-culture types flood into your country and fill up your crematoriums.

Great replacement, innit

And this explains just why Americans who think by having guns in
their homes they're safer because of it are totally wrong.

It also confirms the statistics that report you're more likely to be shot
if you have guns in your home, and oftentimes by your family's own
weapons.

It's not just guns, it's a hyper-alert state of combat readiness that's permeated the culture. People are shot for pulling out a hotdog or going for their handbags.

The last American president asked advisors why protesters can't be shot. Not even wounded in the leg?

The US has the second number of gun deaths to Brazil, a country riddled by gang warfare. Both countries have more gun deaths each year than all other countries put together.
