A new poll shows that Donald Trump has opened up a 7 point lead over Joe Biden, whose approval rating has sunk to a new record low.

The Washington Post/ABC News poll found that 49 per cent of respondents say they will definitely or probably vote for Trump, or that they lean towards voting for Trump, while Biden only nets 42 per cent when all those categories are combined.

The poll also showed that Biden’s approval rating has slipped to 36 per cent, down from 42 per cent in February. That’s the lowest figure recorded in any Post/ABC News poll to date.

The figures make grim reading for Biden, especially since he only announced he would seek a second term late last month.

Yet even in this state Biden beat the failed x president down and easily out performed him in office.

Though it isn't much of an achievement to beat the worst president in over a century.
