Mental health visits to EDs increase since 2004
Mar 20th, 2023 at 1:58pm

70 visits per 10,000 people in 2004

120 visits per 10,000 people in 2021

First time I've seen a graph like this about mental health ... so what happened around 2004 that caused this steep increase over the subsequent 17 years?

Will it continue at a high level? The graph shows a very slight decline at 2021, but it has a lot further to go before it's back down to 70 visits per 10,000 people

Here we have a more recent mental health report - Oct 2022

Over the last three months, Australians...
Needed mental health
support

53%    (bit high IMO)

Obtained mental health
support

42%

This link is quite long, you may wish to scroll down until you find a segment that interests you

PS, aquascoot has been right all along ... there's questions in this survey asking: "Are you thriving, and not just surviving?" and "Do you have goals to jump out of bed for?"

Went to a function yesterday which had a few speakers on and about Mental Health. It was very good.
I posed the question that I heard on Triple JJJ last year that 80% of Men who seek Mental Health via Doctors or Psychologists, etc - cease seeking help after just 3 months.
It was a hard question for the speaker to answer and I said it would be in my question.

But really - there is nothing really definite about why 80% of men drop out from seeking help after just 3 months?

3 months was probably all they needed to get their immediate problems sorted out

Let's hope so, if that's the case.
Though I think it more likely that 80% of males leave seeking Mental (Medical) Health because the Australian (as too Western: UK & USA) Health system is heavily feminised in its identity - lacking any 'Alpha' male sense of 'connecting' with these males in need of help.

Maybe these men need to join the military, get to shoot people and blow people up in war, to feel better about themselves?
