Dad rescued our former cat from outside Dad's workplace. The kitten was taken home with us (after the visit to the vet) and adopted as our new pet. Our dog took immediate liking to the kitten. After about a week, the kitten decided that our dog was going to be her daddy. Right up until our dog's death, those two pets were inseparable.

This is not unusual for different animals to form close relationships.
