All schools in Auckland must close until February 7, Secretary of Education announced.
Auckland mayor Wayne Brown said he is 'certainly not going to resign,' after a flooding communication struggle.
Auckland is not out of the woods yet. More heavy rain is forecast for Northland and Auckland on Tuesday.
States of emergency declared for Auckland and the Waitomo District, with Waitomo's lifted at 9.37am today.
Four people have died - two in Wairau Valley on the North Shore one in Remuera, and one in Onewhero.
