Your error (we'll get there in the end...):

"Everyone's" self interest is an oxymoron, since each has his own self-interest which may or may not coincide with Universal Rights, as identified in the UN UDHR.

In short, the right to work under acceptable conditions, without threat of war.

And - HOW do YOU propose to make it all work better for all?  enough of the motherhood statements - meanderings of possible intent.. HOW are YOU going to achieve this?

You have more brain cells than stars in the milky way..... the potential number of intra-neural connections in one human brain could control the universe at the molecular level ... what a waste yours is ......

Angry Shame on you for once again posting an article that shows the systemic bias of the ABC towards Aboriginal issues.

I'd suggest all Walpiri people stay in their communities instead of coming into Alice to commit crime.

They want justice? For what? They need to control their young people. But they don't or can't - then think these outcomes are everyone elses fault.

Justice has been served.  Angry

How about the right to self defence against unlawful aggression?

What about it?

A brief history of "rights" for you; individuals have possessed the right to self-defence since the beginning of time, based on the survival instinct of individuals, formerly expressed as 'an eye for an eye' (before Jesus said 'turn the other cheek', implicit in the Sermon on the Mount: "blessed are the peace makers").

Which explains why this is the ONE  right you want discuss above all other rights,  thereby rendering inoperable  the concept of universal rights.

The UN UDHR is concerned with identifying rights belonging to all by virtue of being human.
.......

So a black man from a desperately-low socio-economic economic background is apprehended for stealing goods from a supermarket: he abuses the security guards, they wrestle him to the ground.

So a struggle ensues.

Cause of death (not examined by a coroner, of course): poverty entrenched by an evil economic system based on "free" individuals competing in "free" markets - which demonstrably entrenches socio-economic disadvantage, violating Article 23 of the UN UDHR.

Even Trump is railing against the present system: "the world is raping the US"(!).

And you - with your 'individual rights" delusions, want to stick your nose into an ideological dispute in  China re Taiwan which is a Chinese province -   a dispute which is now causing Trump to upend the world trading  system,  so he can "save the free world".

So - re the 'right to self defence': it's a given and doesn't  require listing among the universal rights of mankind, rights which require social organization based on more than self-interest, if men are to advance beyond the chaotic social relations which are threatening our very existence in a globalized world.i

‘Payment rates
As at 20 March 2023, the maximum fortnightly JobSeeker payment for a single person with no children was $693.10. The maximum fortnightly Youth Allowance (other) payment for a single person with no children, over 18 and living at home, was $389.40, or if they are living away from home $562.80’’

What’s wrong with this unfortunate young man paying, he's got money.

‘’Article 3.
Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.’’

Which embodies the right to self defence and, logically, the right to the means of such defence.
