The picture I'm getting is that being a police officer isn't as dangerous as I thought it was. Look where they are....at the very bottom of that list.

That can't be right....can it?

If it is right then perhaps the current police workplace safety protocols which are in place could explain why the figures are lower than we think....or being made to think.

It's a different work environment.
Most people are compliant with cops.

The danger arises quickly with coppers, and it's always different.
There is no time to fill out risk assessments. That's all done on the fly. That's the training they lack imo, but they're lucky in this country, they don't really need hard core defence training.... Yet.

Dangers on construction sites can be identified and tend to be reoccurring dangers.
If something changes, we sit down and review safe work methods and job safety analyses, we toolbox (talk in a group) about the work to be carried out. We use what they call a risk matrix. What that is is a series of numbers and letters on a graph. It is used for every step of the job to be carried out.
If you end up in the red section.... Rethink your procedures to work the risk down lower. It can be done 99% of the time.
When we're happy and in the green section of the matrix, we all sign on to say we agree to follow the steps and procedures as per the toolbox discussion.
If foelr some reason the task changes, we have time to stop and reassess the situation and again, work the risk to as low as possible.
This all takes time.

If you've got 5.56mm NATO rounds flying around you at random, time is life or death. You've got to act quickly while trying to keep as safe as possible.

Top post there!

You're right.

I'm now left wondering if there's such a thing as a "safe" job nowadays.

It's a 5 tier system.
Funnily enough, drawn in an upside down triangle.

I have previously linked Channel 7 reporter saying no firearms were registered to that address. The brother lived there for 5 years if he legally owned firearms they would be registered.

Here is the Qld Police commissioner dodging the questions about the illegal firearms at 3min 35s.

It has been reported offenders had shotgun a 30-06 rifle and 2x .22 rifles

If you have a fireams licence when the Highway patrol pull you over they usually ask if you have a gun in the car after doing driving license check. They have that information right down to any cop who checks your name in their computers.

So why did she dodge the question?

"shotgun a 30-06 rifle and 2x .22 rifles"

Hardly enough to start a war.... but enough to kill two cops and wound a third in an ambush....

I think the neighbor was shot with 30-06 being a single shot kill reports say shotgun was used for final shots on police.

I doubt the police were shot with 30-06 it has longer case than .308 firing same size projectiles.

ICE makes people go batshit crazy which might explain why there was no escape plan.

It's a little scary how many ICE addicts are running around with illegal guns.

We will find out in time which media outlet was telling the truth and which one is fake news.

The Coronial inquest should have most of the details i hope we don't have to wait that long.

Maybe a Garand ..... sounds like a semi-auto from reports.... M37 not likely as bolt action Mauser action.... good rifle but ... long heavy barrel, pop-up rear sight... pretty accurate.... something powerful had to take the two cops down first....  .22s not likely or shottie unless very close...

Still leave the question of YTF they would even consider it - all three of them.....

.308 covers a lot of ground.... I was certain someone said semi-auto.... anything from a Belgian ten shot NATO round or even a bolt action or M-14 or so.

They sure hit those first two cops hard to bring them down.

Still the question is why.... are people that mad on drugs?

Don't mind the M-14 myself... not on full auto... but I'm a single shot man anyway ....

Or even without guns but can still go looney and become knife wielding etc.

Now… in my naiveness some 4 years or thereabouts ago about “ice”
Like really… how is an elder mummy supposed to know about these modern drugs?
The drugs in my days of yesteryear was Bex !
Okay then marijuana came along. But that’s it!

Well my daughter had this bf whom seemed to show potential in the hospitality industry… but he had a certain gift for getting in with so many ….because he was Sri Lankan but looked aboriginal… he was hassled by cops a lot. My daughter would constantly stick up for him. He came to live with us as daughter was living at home with us at time.
After a couple years… she found out he started on drugs…she caught him out (but I don’t know what at this stage) his persona changed and as she dislikes the use of drugs… she gave fair warning to come clean or she breaks up with him.
Then she does break up.
But at this stage… he is homeless as even his own adoptive mum put a 6 month avo on him.
Oh just great … so I’m stuck with him!
I tried to help him find shared accomodation to get him out but he hardly put in the effort.
My son would say he would come and kick him out but I said he has nowhere to go (yeah I’m way too soft)
Then weird stuff happens… my hubby found this glass pipe on mat near door.
He showed me… I asked what it was.
Hubby asked the guy what’s the idea of this pipe!
He replies he dropped it as he was going to throw it out to quit drugs.

Now do we believe that?
He did have a job on a construction site but injured himself so was stuck in my house! Using up all my internet data!
We had cops come to our house looking for him.
Something about paperwork he needs to pick up from local cop shop.
As he has no car… we live in the green wedge… I offered to go pick it up.

I went in and this big Sarge asks me to go into this small meeting room.
Then he shows me photos of that glass pipe and a little plastic bag of stuff.
“Do you know what this is!” He bellowed at me!
I said I have no idea as I looked puzzled at it.
It’s “ice” he tells me.
Well did he start to blast me for allowing him to stay in my home while he’s on ice and how much danger my life could be in etc etc etc
I was totally taken back.
If that was Sarge’s way of showing his concern I’d hate to see when he’s not so concerned!
I felt so told off and warned … felt like crap but it woke me up to something I knew nothing of…or the potential of our lives in danger with an ice addict in house.

We did finally get him out (the little blood sucking user) and last I heard, even though he’s only in his 40s…. His health has deteriorated: my daughter felt sorry for him and would keep in touch if he was okay etc. eventually hears no more from him.

Sad really… the good potential taken away with drugs. Only path travelled is spiralling downwards.

So when I hear anyone doing out of character stuff like killing innocents like this recent event…I do wonder about  if “ice” is used.
Sarge left a huge imprint in my mind!  Angry

And no amount of gun reform laws are going to change that fact.

Just wondering if the illegal firearms trading and ownership issue could be better managed with a much harsher jail sentence. What do you guys reckon?
