Ms Fulani, a British activist and chief executive of domestic abuse charity Sistah Space, was one of about 300 people invited to the event to raise awareness about violence against women and girls.

Soon after, Ms Fulani claimed on social media that she had been approached at the function by Lady Susan who moved her hair to see her name badge and asked: “Where do your people come from?”

Ms Fulani said she responded by telling the royal aide that her charity was based in Hackney, an area in East London, but was then allegedly asked: “No, what part of Africa are YOU from?”

She said she told Lady Susan multiple times that she was British but that the aide continued to challenge her on the matter, allegedly then saying: “when did you first come here”.

“Lady! I am a British national,” Ms Fulani said she responded.

“My parents came here in the 50s.”

According to Ms Fulani, Lady Susan then commented: “Oh, I knew we’d get there in the end. You’re Caribbean.”

Ms Fulani said she again clarified: “No, lady, I am of African heritage, Caribbean descent and British nationality.”

The employee continued to question which part of Africa she was from and when she first came to the UK, Ms Fulani said in a social media post.  She said the experience, just 10 minutes after arriving, left her “insulted” with “mixed feelings” about the royal visit.

Ridiculous.

I say, old boy, Lady Susan's not related to Sir Reggie is she?

Should I leave her a calling card?

No.
Get her a house painter and a carpet layer and tell her not to pinch Jovial Monk's carpet in future.

Ask her how much for the sea shell bling and the leopard skin pinny.  And what's with the Medusa-hair on top of the tilty head?

Also, show her this while you are communing with her.

‘Where are you really from?’ Willesden, rather than Africa, and my name is really Marlene Headley…

Dress like an African, look like an African, change your name from Marlene Headley to an African name, Ngozi Fulani, run a charity for battered African and Caribbean women   - and then get miffed if they ask you where your people are from.

Jolly good. Here you go, Lady Susan.

She's not tinted, dear, it's just the spray-on tan.

Correlation not causation, innit.

It's purely
MENTAL ABUSE

I travel around quite a bit and all this time hundreds of people have asked me where I'm from, being naive I would tell them where I actually come from. Little did I know they were asking me why I looked different or why I dress the way I do. Boy am I going to let them have it from now on.

Yes, I agree.   Classic example of deliberate race baiting.

Here is the full conversation, as recounted by Ms Headley (Fulani):

Lady SH: Where are you from?

Me: Sistah Space.

SH: No, where do you come from?

[At this point, Headley should've responded that her parents were
African/Caribbean, but that she was born in Britain after they migrated
here.  This would of course cleared up and answered SH's legitimate
enquiry, but Headley chose to bait SH in order to elicit—she hoped—a
racist response, by playing dumb.
]

Me: We're based in Hackney.

SH: No, what part of Africa are you from?

Me: I don't know, they didn't leave any records.

SH: Well, you must know where you're from, I spent time in France. Where are you from?

Me: Here, the UK.

SH: No, but what nationality are you?

Me: I am born here and am British.

SH: No, but where do you really come from, where do your people come from?

Me: 'My people', lady, what is this?

SH: Oh I can see I am going to have a challenge getting you to say where you're from. When did you first come here?

Me: Lady! I am a British national, my parents came here in the 50s when...

SH: Oh, I knew we'd get there in the end, you're Caribbean!

Me: No lady, I am of African heritage, Caribbean descent and British nationality.

SH: Oh so you're from...

—Apparently Headley was able to remember verbatim exactly the words spoken
by both herself and SH after the event?   Seriously?   I call bullshit.   It was a setup.
