The English choked again with that last penalty shot given in the box. He sent it into the crowd like a $million player does with a free shot.

Well, I can only say from here - considering I've been pretty awful in my tips. That I hope Morocco does its country and the sport itself proud.

It really is boring seeing the same teams in the final Cup after Cup.

Soccer is a boring game.

2 of the best teams in the world play for 1 hour 30 mins.
Not 1 score.

Useless.

It's not about the score at the end.

But I'm not surprised that fact goes straight over your head.

A game where the lead can change often and is high scoring is MUCH better to watch.
eg, league, union, AFL, basketball.

No, a game that highlights skill over brute force is much better to watch. It's about the journey not the destination

England 1, France 2.

Whilst soccer/football is a very skilled game of ball control with a player using their feet, it is difficult to go pass rugby league/union and AFL in terms of skill. Having to force your way pass the opponent with brute force and have a nearby player to assist getting you to the tryline, that comes off more difficult to play (and exciting to watch). Soccer players pass the ball back and forward and do very little exciting play (other than contesting the ball and the scoring opportunities). The fact that the soccer players dive over the lightest of touches or even dive when a player has not even touched them, it gets on the nerves of Australian sports fans. We are so accustomed to seeing injured players continuing their match, despite said injuries. And it all becomes heroic.

OK so your comments then on the way they are playing.
Let's start with the 3,4,3 structure?

I make no claim to know anything about soccer but that combination is 3 up front 4 in the centre and 3 at the back. Like I said I played Rugby League. Knowing soccer players teaches me nothing.

Well - I'd like to see more exciting soccer where they break that structure often -
going to 3 in the back 2 in the middle and 5 up front.
They don't do it enough as it's risky to leave the mid field less defended.
A mid fielder can even score a goal that way as it confuses the opponents
and outnumbers them around the goal.
I think the play is too predictable and that's why we're seeing
penalty shootouts to win games.

You would get scores like 25 to 23 but without a good goal being scored. nobbling the D is no answer. Soccer is Soccer (a low scoring mostly boring game) playing with the rules will stuff it up like has happened in so many other sports.

Look at the horror of the NRL as an example of this.

Not 25 to 23.
In soccer you have to take risks to get goals.

Not if you have 5 attackers against 3 defenders you don't.

naah,
I want to see action like a midfielder charge right through close to the goal
and either divert attention away from an actual striker or get a goal himself.
Instead - I'm seeing boring regimented soccer where each player
receives the ball - passes it on and then returns to their predictable position -
in fact I'm getting sick of it.

Crap. Whilst there is some skill in rugby, it almost always ultimately comes down to brute force. There's a reason the nrl is now full of Islanders and kiwis

Yeah, soccer at a high level is the most beautiful game.

AFL may be faster but skill levels are less.

The reason why there is an appeal to Australian sports fans is that rugby league, union, and AFL rely on brute force. Why anyone would like soccer players acting like drama queens and cheating their way to free kicks or penalties, that is beyond my understanding.

Rugby players do not play up their injuries. They become a liability whilst they are down in back play. Meanwhile, soccer players act like they are shot by snipers and make miraculous recoveries when they get the penalty in their favour.

You really should not act that oblivious to this fact, John. But, somehow you do.
