A question for all of the constitution botherers ... what did the founding fathers have in mind for treason and sedition?
Treason in the US is a very strange item in the constitution.
It is defined in the constitution as someone who makes war against the USA or aides / abets someone who has. The law can only apply in a situation where war has been officially declared.
The British law and dictionary meaning of the term is much broader and very different.
An act that would make you a traitor to almost anywhere in the world is likely ok in the US.
An example would be that Donald Trumps actions almost anywhere else would be traitorous but not in the USA.
Sedition is conspiring to stage or incite rebellion, oppose gov authority by force, Hindering a law from being carried out, taking, seizing or possessing gov property by force.
(Bad Luck Donald in the category of all of the above).
Insurrection also relates to treason and sedition.
