Where is "self-defence" mentioned, Panther?  I don't care how the Supreme Court has interpreted it, the wording is clear.  A well regulated militia which has since 1776 morphed into the National Guard.  QED.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Well, I'm not about to do your homework for you Bwian if you're too lazy to do it for yourself.

Personally I don't give a Royal Rats Ass what you care about regarding our Second Amendments interpretation Bwian. In the United States, The United States Supreme Court has, is, & will always be the last word when it comes to interpreting OUR Constitution.

That said.....I'll give you a slight hint to start you on your quest 'cause it's the least I would do for anyone else interested in expanding their knowledge about our American Constitution in this regard.....It might be found in the archives of the Library of Congress, the World's Largest Library, regarding the Second Amendment's 'Original Intent' or the 'Natural Right to Self-Defense'.

Happy hunting  Grin Grin Grin

In the end Bwian, The US Constitution belongs to WE the PEOPLE, & as long as I, & the greater part of the other 330+ Million Americans understand, you & your beliefs & opinions will remain as always.......your right......but totally immaterial in regards to our American Constitution.

Personally I don't care if the stupid Yanks gun each other down in the streets in record numbers in the belief it makes them safer....However when innocent children are being executed on a daily basis it is beyond reason to think a society puts guns before it's children....Any sensible reform or restrictions are opposed by a minority and politicians who have a vested interest....America is killing itself whilst the gun nuts deny there is a problem and continue to kill eachother....Only in America and third world war zones???

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution affirms, defends, & protects an American Citizen's Right to Keep & Bear Arms to use in Self-Defense.....of himself/herself, their loved ones, & friends.

* In America Murder is already illegal --  against the law.

* Attempting to murder is also already illegal.

* A criminal felon owning, attempting to purchase, or in any way possessing a firearm, is already illegal.

* It is already illegal for a person with a diagnosed violent form of mental illness to possess, attempt to purchase, or in any way own a firearm.

* Shooting & killing people indiscriminately is already illegal.

* Using firearms in any criminal manner is already illegal.

Thank you for your personal opinion, but in the end it accounts for nothing more than that.....your own personal opinion......which you have an absolute personal Right to believe in & hold dear.....

That said.....

Still, absolutely no reason on God's Green Earth, absolutely no reason whatsoever, for good law-abiding Americans.....the overwhelming majority of the American People......to even consider relinquishing or forfeiting any of their Constitutional Right to Keep & Bear Arms, arms specifically meant to be used for lawful purposes......especially for self-defense.....to defend & protect themselves, their loved ones, their friends, & their property....as well as any & all other lawful purposes.
  ...

If Americans want stronger laws which would infringe upon their Constitutional Right to Keep & Bear Arms, then it would be up to them, & them alone, to Amend their United States Constitution stating so.....rather than you, cherry-picking a few thousand respondents to a 'poll', which has no standing in law, as if they somehow represent the combined will, wants, & desires of ALL 337+ Million American People....

From day one of the second amendment there were existing gun ownership regulations in place.

The second amendment never operated above the relevant gun regulations nor was there previously ever a belief that it either did or should.

Actually a huge majority support sensible gun regulation and do not believe for a second that the 2nd Amendment was meant to facilitate school shooters.

It's right next to the part that mentions muskets.

Americans don't need a reason to own guns they have the 2A. The founding fathers knew how to deal with bedwetting gun grabbers like you.

The reality is and even the shooters downunder agree with this, there are more firearms in Australia, now, than there were in 1986 (when the new legislation covering firearms licensing was introduced).  The difference is, you cannot have semi-automatic longarms, pump-action shotguns and you must belong to a shooting association or club.

A lot of shooters don't agree with our laws restricting what type of gun they can own Brian.

Our 2nd worst mass shooting was done with a single shot bolt action .22lr which is a type of gun even bedwetters like you are cool with people owning.

You can't have a pump action shotgun yet pump action rifles like Remigton 7600-7615 with 10 round magazine are OK. Where is the logic in restricting pump action shotguns?

We had firearms licenses in 1996 nothing new there Brian.

You don't have to belong to a club or shooting association being a landowner or having permission to shoot on private property is sufficient.

Did you know that in early US law suspected British sympathisers were not permitted to own a gun ?

Muskets get a mention in the Militia act of 1792, Self defence is not mentioned anywhere.

Gun control laws have proven one thing, gun control laws don't work. You will never find a solution when you insist on looking in the wrong place! Criminals don't obey the law so pass any law you like and somehow not only does it prove to not work but you think doubling down and passing more of the same will change the outcomes. Somehow we made it from the seventeenth century to the 1960s before we needed gun control laws. What do you think changed?

Quote:
“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

Our good times have made weak men who sometimes lash out and murder others. Life is cyclical and hard times are coming, an honest man would be a fool to be disarmed before that happens!
