What evidence did she destroy......(mind you, we will never know why there was an acquittal if there is one so yer gonna lose that bet.)

I don't need to worry,  if he's acquitted, the media will fill in the blanks for me!

She washed the dress. Did she learn nothing from Lewinski?!

Yes, she did wash the dress, and I can't recall how long after the alleged event that was.

I do know that Reynolds potentially destroyed evidence when she definitely well knew something had happened in her suite when she ordered the cleaners in that very day...Saturday of the alleged event.

Ah! Reynolds!

As I said in another thread, one of the primary traits of long-lived politicians is cowardice.

I think she deliberately sought to protect Lehrmann.  She should have called the Cops....not the cleaners.

Agreed.  But 'protect Lehrmann'?  He was sacked.... though he got references... just not from her.

This gets sleazier by the day....

I'll take that bet.

OK, well you're a lawyer.

I put this case in terms of public profile up there with Pell, who was wrongly convicted as it turned out.

What are the odds of a conviction?

What are the odds of his winning an appeal if convicted?

I always said that Pell would win his appeal.

Not apples v apples.

If Lehrmann is convicted, I say he will not get an acquittal on appeal.  At best...retrial assuming (and that is a huge assumption) this Trial Judge fuqqed up in her summation to the Jury.

It is far more likely he will not be convicted in the first place.

Then why are you arguing with me? An appeal is not only ab out whether or not the judge fuqqed up .. it's on ............................... facts.....

More than a bit crude - but why was she at a do without underwear (it said underwear)?

Now I always go without 'underwear' - jungle rot - you have to let the sleeping dragon breathe if you are a man.... but why would a lady wear no undies to a public event?

It's all a bit strange to me....

BTW - 'going Commando' is just what I said... to avoid crotch rot undies are not acceptable ... too much humidity especially in a hot region .... it's not only Commandos who do that, but it is a reference to the ages old contest between Royal Marine Commandos and the Army 'pongoes' - wherever they go the pong goes..... whereas in a confined space such as a ship, there is a greater need for cleanliness..

RM take showers after every training cycle.... as training to be perhaps on a ship.... fast showers.

Aussie???? Have you read this????

The former staffer accused of raping Brittany Higgins at Parliament House claimed that when he and Ms Higgins arrived at their boss’s suite in the building, they went their separate ways and he didn’t see her again that night.

Bruce Lehrmann said he was “obviously nervous and distracted” when outlining his version of the events of 22-23 March 2019 in his interview with police, recorded on 19 April 2021 and played to jurors in his ACT Supreme Court trial on Monday (10 October).

Mr Lehrmann’s evidence can now be reported following the lifting of a non-publication order.

A police officer started by confronting the Texas-born then-25-year-old, who was working for British American Tobacco, with the allegation that he had raped Ms Higgins in Parliament.

“I, from the outset, reject it,” he replied.

He claimed he had been invited to drinks with Department of Defence staff on the night of 22 March 2019, along with Minister Peter Dutton’s media adviser Austin Wenke.

After a beer and a steak at the Kingston Hotel, which he called “the Kingo”, they met up with the group at The Dock, which included Ms Higgins.

Mr Lehrmann suggested they move to 88mph in Civic as it was one of his favourite places, and he went there with Ms Higgins, Mr Wenke and Lauren Gain.

He described his intoxication as “moderate” and that he was “functioning”.

He told police he had to go to Parliament House to get the keys to the apartment where he lived with his girlfriend and claimed Ms Higgins also indicated she had to go to Parliament for “something”, but she didn’t tell him what exactly.

“I made an indication I had to go to Parliament House to get my keys. I said I’m already going there, do you want to share an Uber,” he said.

Once they got to the building, he said they passed the security desk, and then a guard escorted them to Minister Linda Reynolds’ office.

“I entered the office, I turned left to my desk,” he said.

“Brittany turned right into the minister’s suite.

“I didn’t see her again.”

Mr Lehrmann said he attended to “some Question Time folders”, ordered an Uber and left.

“That’s how I recall that evening,” he said.

When asked if he and Ms Higgins had talked about having drinks at the building, he said no, and there wasn’t any alcohol in the office.

The trial, in which Mr Lehrmann has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual intercourse without consent, continues before Chief Justice Lucy McCallum.

No idea... he gets confused at times... anyway the judge made it clear that no inference could be drawn from the defendant declining to give sworn evidence.

I'm convinced some here just argue for the sake of arguing...

Jayzuz you are an offensive arsehole Grappler.  Where is my confusion?

I draw no inference of guilt from his failure to give evidence.

However, that he did not leaves me with person A swearing to  something under oath in a Court Room in front of a Jury and Judge and being cross examined ~ and person B saying something different not under oath, and never being cross examined, to associates and Coppers.

I therefore conclude I ought and will regard person A as having more credibility.

Two full days of deliberation, and no verdict.  They have adjourned until Monday.  No media (I can find) has yet made it clear if the Jury has been sequestrated.

From the language used in some reports, I suspect they have not.

Given the case's ultra-high interest from the public, do you think not sequestering the jury would be a mistake?

Well....it would be unusual if they were sequestrated.  Judges go out of their way to emphasise that when  they are out in the real world they must take no notice of media and not discuss the matter AT ALL.

It defies human nature that at least one of them will not discuss it all with their spouse.  I am sure I'd be hounding my spouse if she were on the Jury asking about it....even knowing that I am being very naughty doing so.

I knew someone who was a jury member in a very high-profile case involving a politician a while back. His lips were sealed (at least to his non-family members). The jury was warned what would happen to any one of them if it was proved they'd discussed the case.
