It's a very honorable gesture from President Trump ... and no one else seems interested in brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia. The United Nations should be wholeheartedly in favor of any suggestion to stop the fighting, and encourage Trump to talk to the warring leaders to bring about an early peaceful settlement

Trump could only do more damage, there is little merit in making it worse just to reinforce an egomaniacs self perception.

Trumps pro Russia Pro Putin history would make him an unacceptable option.

The war is unstoppable now.

It's fueling itself on patriotism and vengeance, on the Ukrainian side, that can't be dialled down by diplomacy. Hundreds of thousands have had to flee their country to safety and have since learned that, of those who stayed, many were raped, tortured and murdered.

The Russians are facing the prospect of global humiliation on a scale not seen since its exit from WW1. Hundreds of thousands have fled across the borders from Russia to avoid being involved in a neo-Tsarist military adventure - another parallel with WW1.

Putin should consider the fate of Tsar Nicholas II.
