These unmanned weapons could produce a tsunami up to 500m (1,650ft) high

a 100 megaton nuclear payload, US Naval Institute News reports.

Russian Navy takes delivery of Putin's super sub:
Largest submarine to be built in 30 years that has enough firepower
to take out entire cities and unleash 'radioactive tsunamis' is set to go into service.

The Russian Navy were delivered a 'doomsday' submarine

last week equipped with nuclear torpedoes 'the size of a school-bus' so powerful they could cause a 'radioactive tsunami' The 184m (604ft), 30,000 ton Belgorod submarine is the largest sub built in 30 years and can fit six 80ft long Poseidon nuclear torpedo drones armed with an up to a 100 megaton nuclear payload, US Naval Institute News reports.

Britain is to send a fleet of nuclear submarines to the Pacific in a decisive move to thwart Chinese aggression in the region.

The dramatic decision could see UK subs based in Australia until 2040, operating within striking distance of China.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the head of the Armed Forces, will agree the arrangement at a naval conference in Sydney next week. Assigning submarines to patrol the South China Sea will be Britain’s most assertive move yet against Beijing.

According to reports in Australia, Royal Navy submarines would be based at Perth on the country’s western coast and Australian submariners would be incorporated into British crews to improve their skills.

What hope have we got?

There is a theory that we don't detect any alien civilisations
using our radio telescope searches because any that were there
have all died out due to nuclear weapons.

You see - once a society is intelligent enough to make radio transmitters -
it can also discover nuclear weapons within 50 years or so.

We had our first radio transmitter in 1895.
It was only 50 years later in 1945 that we used the first nuclear weapons
to destroy 2 cities along with 100s of 1000s of people.
By 1965 we had enough nuclear weapons to destroy the whole world 10 times over.
So it only took 70 years from radio discovery to a possible total annihilation.
We are all lucky to be here after the Cuban missile crisis in 1962.

So - are we headed for the same inevitable path?
It seems Putin must think so.

The world would be turned into a nuclear wasteland.
No one would get out alive:

Nuclear waste takes too long to decay.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioactive_waste

Some common nuclear waste half lives:

Plutonium 239 half life 24,110 years.
Americium 241 half life 432 years
Radium 226 Half life 1,600 years
Uranium 236 Half life 15 million years.
Plutonium 244 Half life 80 million years
Uranium 235 Half life 704 million years
Uranium 238 half life 4.5 billion years

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_extinction

Human extinction

Causes
Main article: Global catastrophe scenarios

Potential anthropogenic causes of human extinction include global thermonuclear war, deployment of a highly effective biological weapon, an ecological collapse, runaway artificial intelligence, runaway nanotechnology (such as a grey goo scenario), a scientific accident involving a micro black hole or vacuum metastability disaster, overpopulation and increased consumption pose the risk of resource depletion and a concomitant population crash, population decline by choosing to have fewer children, displacement of naturally evolved humans by a new species produced by genetic engineering or technological augmentation. Natural and external extinction risks include high-fatality-rate pandemic, supervolcanic eruption, asteroid impact, nearby supernova or gamma-ray bursts, extreme solar flare, or alien invasion.

Without intervention by unexpected forces, the stellar evolution of the Sun is expected to make Earth uninhabitable, then destroy it. Depending on its ultimate fate, the entire universe may eventually become uninhabitable.
