Among the wealthiest democracies in the world, South Korea is notorious for recognising an exceptionally small number of asylum-seekers as refugees. In 2022, for example, Korea's refugee recognition rate (RRR) was around 2 per cent, compared to 40 per cent in EU+ countries.7 Aug 2023

Applicants face near-impossible standards for proof that prioritises translated and notarised ‘objective’ official documents at their own expense. Migrants also face the threat of arbitrary and indefinite immigration detention. Poor conditions and abuse in these detention centres have led to several high-profile deaths — such as that of Wishma Sandamali, a Sri Lankan woman who was detained after overstaying her student visa in 2021, and the suicide of an Italian man in 2022. Applicants also face the constant danger of being detained again without cause after release, contributing to an asylum approval rate of less than 1 per cent.

The creation of the ‘quasi-refugee’ status to normalise the legal status of the approximately 2000 Ukrainian refugees taken in by Japan since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine is another example of this regime in action. The 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees that Japan uses to define a refugee does not recognise military conflict as a valid reason to claim refugee status.

Ukrainians entering after Japan’s highly publicised ‘open arms’ declaration are formally recognised as ‘temporary visitors’ undertaking ‘special activities’. This uncharacteristically generous treatment has been critically juxtaposed with the cold shoulder given to other groups. Syrians, Kurds, Burmese and even former Afghan employees of the Japanese embassy in Kabul are trapped in repeated cycles of application, denial, detention and provisional release, disrupting their access to livelihood, education and even nationality.

Japan’s refugee regime is not an outlier, regionally. Many Asian states resist international refugee norms and, instead, tolerate or instrumentalise asylum policies to balance the pursuit of national interests with political and social stability concern

I would prefer no illegal immigration.
I would also prefer lower level, much more selective legal immigration.
With all the automation and technological development, no Western country needs low skill, culturally distant, hard to/unwilling to assimilate immigrants.  There is zero benefit to Europe or America from the millions of third worlders pouring in. No Western country benefits from Muslim immigration one little bit. It is nothing but trouble.
It is complete madness.

What you prefer will not happen, Soren, you live in a fantasy world  that never existed and will never exist.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

It is happening in Japan, Korea, China, in some ex-Soviet countries. They are not welcoming mass Muslim, African, European immigration to them culturally distant people.

It is not demonstrated anywhere in the world that Muslim immigration benefits any country. It is always detrimental, the greater the number of Muslim immigrants, the worse their effect.

Japan and Korea are welcoming increased numbers of refugees as I type, Soren.  No wants to live ex-Soviet countries, which is why they run from  one border to another border to reach the West.  Soren, you really do live in a fantasy world. Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

BS

Not bullshit at all.

"Japan has upped its total protection rate dramatically. In 2021, 654 out of 2,413 (27 percent) asylum seekers were granted protection, while in 2022 this number increased even further to 1,997 out of 3,772 (53 percent). This included a record 202 applicants being granted formal refugee status."

In its response to recent events in Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Ukraine, Japan has demonstrated greater flexibility in admitting those needing refuge.

One day you'll get something right.

That day, however, is not today.

from your own link

One reason for this is the country’s low rate of asylum admissions. In the year with the largest number of asylum seekers on record, 2017, Japan granted protection to 94 applicants out of a total of 19,629, a rate of 0.005 percent. More recently, in 2020, this rate stood at 0.023 percent. This percentage reflects what is known as the total protection rate, which combines the number of applicants recognized as refugees as well as those admitted on humanitarian grounds. The rate of refugee recognition was thus even lower. In international comparison, Germany had a total protection rate of 72.3 percent in 2022.  Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry Cry

You were wrong, and Brian was right.

Brian said that Japan is accepting more refugees.

You said it was bullshit.

I proved you wrong - they are accepting more refugees.

And now you don't have the balls to admit that you were wrong.

You are always wrong, and you never own up to it.

I can't wait to humiliate you again   Wink

There y'go, stop illegal immigration and starve the Trumps of unpaid labour. Win-win.

Those Trumps, dear, are part of a supply chain. When Mr Trump's supporters complain about inflation, they're also complaining about the lack of labour. This is a post-covid problem, brought on by closed borders.

Mr Trump might have left that part out. Do you think he's curious?

Not at all, I couldn't care less. Solve the illegals problem, starve Trump of unpaid workers. What don't you like about that?

Asylum seekers aren't illegals.

The illegals come by plane.

How many times do we need to explain this to you?

How do you know who came by plane and who didn't? It seems that if Trump hired illegals they must have come by plane. It's in your own explanation.

Correct.

They came by plane (Poland is very far away).

As I said, illegals come by plane.

Asylum seekers come by foot.

So 1997 refugees accepted TEMPORARILY - there is ZERO permanent resettlement of refugees - in a country of 126 million.

And you two think this is somehow a refutation of what I and others said about the fact that there is no large scale immigration from the third word or even the first world into some very highly developed rich countries like Korae and Japan.

That is one of your most moronic, bbwianesque little idiocies, turd. Thicko Smith envies you.

By this idiocy there cannot be asylum seekers in any island country like Britain, Australia, Iceland or Japan because you cannot walk into an island country.

One of these people is in our county illegally, beat up cops, and was released without bail.

...

The other is a former Marine who protected riders on a subway from a violent psycho, is facing criminal charges, and was released on a $100,000 bail.

Democrats’ soft-on-violent crime and no bail policies in action.
