NSW Second State to Ban Nazi Symbols
Aug 12th, 2022 at 7:44pm

Intentionally waving a Nazi flag in New South Wales or displaying
memorabilia bearing swastikas could now land a person in jail for
up to a year, along with a fine of over $100,000.  The NSW Crimes
Amendment [prohibition on display of Nazi symbols] Bill 2022 swiftly
and unanimously passed the NSW upper house yesterday.

A section in the bill allows for the swastika symbol to be used in
academic, historical or educational settings, thereby paving the way
for its display by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains for whom it holds
religious significance.

NSW joins Victoria in banning the offensive Nazi symbolism from
public display.  Which will hopefully consign these kinds of mental
midgets to the waste bin of history...

Do you actually think there will be a positive benefit?

This is a bad move. Freedom of expression applies to everyone, no matter how offensive their ideology. Banning Nazi symbols will only give those who identify with such things a sense of grievance and will make them more attractive to other disaffected people.

Better to have these ideologies out in the open where they can be seen for what they are rather than driven underground.

As long as they understand it's a symbol of extreme socialism. I'm surprised though that the Liberal Party is joining in to ban it, they were doing what the Nazis did when they conscripted thousands of young blokes in the 60s, taking them off to camps and treated them like dirt, giving them nothing and throwing them on the waste heap when they'd finished exploiting them. I've never voted for the Nazi Liberal coalition, and never will, (nor the ALP)

Nazi symbols wouldn't be out of place outside Public Hospitals, for all the people they've killed, my mother included. They kill children as well, just like Dr Mengele, Karl Brandt, Carl Clauberg did in Nazi Germany ... mercy killings

You can ban the symbols, but you can't take the "Nazi" out of the politicians who are born that way

People born with Nazi Disease usually have no idea they are carrying it... we get one or two here... often purporting to be of the 'woke left', but whose every action and behaviour is Nazi to the core...

Yes.  The swastika as a Nazi symbol is—or should be—seen as offensive
by any rational thinker.  Particularly as its reincarnation has become a
symbol of anarchistic violence, divisiveness, and vilification of minority
ethnic groups across the planet.

It's also banned in 17 other countries, including France, Germany, Russia,
and Sweden.

I have to disagree.  The public display of any/all Nazi symbolism has nothing
at all to do with anybody's "freedom of expression".  Quite the contrary in
fact—the swastika is a symbol of oppression, tyranny, and suffering.

And there's no evidence that banning the swastika becomes "more attractive"
to other disaffected people.  That's simply wishful thinking by those who support
its display in public—for whatever bizarre reasons.

I'm sorry, but this has to be one of the most absurd, fanciful, injudicious
comments I've read here on this topic!

Do you really believe this sort of bullshit, or are you just stirring the pot?

The law will not change people's perception of it. At least, not in the way you want.

You don't seem to be aware of what we are discussing. What positive benefit do you see from the ban in terms of the popularity of right wing extremism, and how do you think the law will achieve them?

What have we actually gained from abandoning freedom of speech?

Anyone with any life experience can tell you that banning something makes it more attractive to many people, and banning Nazi symbols will take them from symbols of a despicable ideology to something cool and subversive.

These articles give a good summary of the issue.

Actually I've got no problem with that. As a mother to 4 beautiful children I do not want them seeing shyte like that today AFTER ALL that's happened BECAUSE of that flag. Also as an Aunty to 4 nieces and nephews who are half Jewish (my husband's sister is married to a Jewish scientist) there's no way I'd want to see such a terrible visual prompt for them because these kids know that they have great grandparents who were personally affected by what that flag stood for.

If people don't get that visual prompts function as traumatic triggers then that's on them to learn more before they pass judgement.

Hi Lisa,
it's an idea that cultural Marxists came up with as one part of their
left wing, woke, gay, virtue signalling, multicultural propaganda.
They are giving their ideas teeth and claws.
Expect to see more of it.
